About the Role

As a Senior Specialty Underwriting Analyst, you'll be at the intersection of data, analytics, and business strategy, helping to revolutionize our approach to specialty underwriting and tools. You'll collaborate with underwriters worldwide, providing crucial insights that inform risk decisions and portfolio management while contributing to transformative projects that are reshaping our industry.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and enhance specialty costing/pricing tools in collaboration with actuarial and tools teams
  • Create and refine costing processes for Specialty, including developing guidelines and best practices
  • Analyze industry trends and conduct actual vs. expected performance studies to improve model accuracy
  • Leverage various dashboards to evaluate portfolios and deals, performing actuarial analyses and business intelligence tasks
  • Conduct end-to-end specialty treaty costing during renewal cycles and off-season periods
  • Collaborate closely with global Underwriters to provide tools and costing support
  • Deliver detailed analytics and insights that drive informed underwriting decisions

About the Team

 The Specialty Transformation team owns the strategic roadmap and changes management of Specialty tools, data, and UW processes, which includes both Facultative and Treaty business. It drives the Specialty data and tech strategy and is responsible for the adaptation of tools and data services within Specialty. As the dedicated Specialty team in Bangalore, the Specialty Transformation Bangalore team  support underwriting, tool development, and actuarial tasks. We work closely with underwriting teams and partnering functions, including Product & Delivery Team, UW Excellence, and UW transformation. The team is part of the Specialty Centre, enabling the Global Specialty Market Unit according to the Centre mandate of "build, advise, steer".

 

About You

You're an analytical thinker who thrives in complex environments and enjoys translating data into actionable business insights. You communicate effectively across diverse teams and are passionate about innovation in the reinsurance space. Your collaborative approach and problem-solving mindset enable you to navigate challenges while contributing to transformative initiatives.

We are looking for candidates who meet these requirements:

  • Minimum of 6-8 years in the insurance or reinsurance industry, with experience in underwriting and reinsurance treaty pricing
  • M.Sc. or Ph.D. in a scientific discipline (Mathematics, Physics, Statistics, Computer Science, Actuarial Science, Engineering)
  • In-depth understanding of various reinsurance structures and costing methodologies
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage effectively with diverse perspectives
  • Strong conceptual and analytical problem-solving abilities

These are additional nice-to-haves:

  • Familiarity with a Specialty Line of Business (Marine, Aviation, Engineering, Agriculture or Cyber)
  • Experience with programming languages such as Java, R, Python, C++, or C#
  • Willingness to pursue an actuarial qualification
  • Experience working in international, multicultural environments
  • Product ownership or project management experience
