About the Role
We are looking for an ambitious Casualty Underwriter who has the skills, drive and commitment to develop his/her career in Swiss Re P&C Re as one of the world's global reinsurance leaders.
You will be part of our Asia Pacific Facultative Team to underwrite and grow a profitable Casualty facultative book primarily in China region whilst executing our Swiss Re Fac Go-To market strategies and promoting our presence and propositions to brokers and clients.
The role entails working externally with cedants and brokers, and internally with the Client Management (CM) and Treaty Teams. Also, being an effective member of Cross Functional Teams (XFT), to actively contribute to the local business as well as the Asia Pacific Casualty plans and initiatives.
You will also get exposure beyond the China market through supporting peak renewals and 4-eye consultation of other countries within Asia Pacific. Swiss Re is a bottom-line driven company and your performance will be measured based on bottom line growth.
The role reports into the China Casualty Facultative Senior Underwriter, based in Beijing.
Key Responsibilities:
- Underwriting & Development:
- Efficiently Hunt, Underwrite and develop casualty facultative business
- Provide high-quality and timely service to clients
- Ensure profitable and balanced growth in accordance with the planned portfolio targets and Go-To Market strategy, within stated underwriting guidelines and other governance rules
- Ensure diligent use of pricing / modelling tools and robust reflection of pricing to exposure and risk quality, and proactively improves data transparency and accuracy
- Provide underwriting support to other Swiss Re Offices and handles ad hoc tasks as needed
- Actively seeks and procures opportunities in the market through high quality client and broker interactions, relationship building and engagement
- Mitigates volatility, manages line size and explores alternative approaches that allows us to write business profitably and meet client needs
- Market and Channel management:
- Drive business origination and enhance relationships with clients and brokers
- Maintain robust new business pipelines and improve renewal retention
- Conduct market analysis on growth trends and opportunities
- Providing superior customer service
- Collaboration & Expertise:
- Collaborate with other client facing team i.e Client Manager, Treaty Team, Claims Team to provide expertise in casualty facultative products and client training service
- Work with regional and group experts to leverage local knowledge
- Provide technical advice and conduct training for clients and internal functions.
- Support other Swiss Re offices 4 eyes and handle ad hoc tasks as required
- Operational Efficiency:
- Streamline underwriting processes and workflows
- Improve efficiency and productivity
- Support underwriting peer reviews and audits
- Manage operational risks and ensure compliance with ORM
- Project Participation:
- Lead or participate in projects as needed
- Manage projects and ensuring deadlines are met
- Support development of budgets and business plans
About you
You are a result-oriented person who takes ownership about your performance and are constantly looking for incoming business opportunities. You are creative and resourceful hunt, always improving your techniques to grow portfolio.
Business & Technical experiences
- Self-motivated proven track record in profitable growth of business.
- Minimum of 8 years of facultative underwriting relevant experience in China market. Deep understanding of primary / reinsurance market and extensive broker or client network.
- Experience in Asia an added advantage
- Expertise in General TP Liability, CGL/Products liability, Product Recall, Professional Indemnity, and Project PI.
- Experience in D&O, Motor, A&H and Facility underwriting knowledge an added advantage
- Agility to work with new systems, tools & processes and underwriting approaches, important factors working in SR
- Understand and anticipate future moves of markets, legal landscape and competitors
- Willing to travel as required
- University or equivalent professional degree
- Languages: English and Mandarin; Cantonese added advantage
