Cloud Engineer

About the Role

We offer an inspiring opportunity for a self-motivated individual to join an engaging interdisciplinary IT team which supports the cloud transformation for the reinsurance and insurance solutions. Your major task as a Cloud Engineer is to design, implement, optimize, and maintain cloud-based systems for business. You will be responsible for deploying and debugging cloud stacks, educating teams on new cloud initiatives, and ensuring the security of the cloud infrastructure. In this role, you will also be responsible for collaborating with global teams and outsourcing partners during analysis, design, development and testing phases.

 

The key responsibilities include:

  • Identify the most optimal cloud-based solutions and maintain cloud infrastructure in accordance with best practices, regulations, and company security policies
  • Work together with other technical professionals to design, develop, deploy and troubleshooting enterprise solutions as per the technical and business requirements
  • Identify, analyze, and resolve infrastructure vulnerabilities and application deployment issues, regularly review existing systems, and make recommendations for improvements
  • Collaborate with various teams in defining functionality and estimation
  • Present and communicate design & implementation to various teams for review
  • Contribute to technical research and feasibility studies of proposed tooling and software upgrades
  • Provide application systems support to Testers and Application Support, following the Swiss Re control procedures
  • Collaborate with other development teams and business team in choosing the most appropriate technical solution
  • Review the quality of project deliverables, both in document and software form

 

About the Team

We are looking for you as our Cloud Engineer for China IT team. The team is dedicated to building common cloud capabilities to power up cloud transformation and creating cutting edge data driven solutions by leveraging new technologies and innovative thinking. You will work with colleagues from various regions who have top-notch experience and deep understanding for reinsurance business. In this role, you will be part of a dynamic team within the larger IT organization, and you will work closely with many business units and projects which will allow you to actively leverage your technical, collaboration, and communications skills.

 

About You

Ideally, you should have a background in software engineering and a University degree (Master's equivalent) in Business Administration/ Operations or Information Technology or equivalent. You should speak at least fluent English and Mandarin. Be keen in leveraging emerging cloud technology to build innovative solution, manage and monitor installed systems and infrastructure, as well as of agile, DevOps and continuous improvement practices in general. Take personal accountability for the success of initiatives and of Swiss Re's business goals

 

Analytical / Technical / Experience Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience architecting, designing, developing, and implementing cloud solutions with large scale infrastructure, experience working with public Cloud such as Alibaba Cloud, Azure, AWS etc will be a strong plus
  • Hands-on experience with container technologies, Docker, Kubernetes etc
  • Solid knowledge in DevOps, Continuous Integration, Auto Testing and Auto Deployment, ability to build CI/CD pipelines with Jenkins, ArgoCD or any other solutions
  • Hands-on programming skills are required, Java or Python preferred
  • Knowledge of microservice architecture and RESTful APIs
  • Demonstrable experience of working within an agile environment
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Analytical thinking, structured approach to address complex topics
  • Team player and able to work in an environment of high levels of change and complexity
  • Highly self-motivated requiring little day to day direction and comfortable working at a fast pace and pressure
