We are now looking for experienced engineering underwriter to support our China growth strategy in China market.
About the Role
We're looking for a highly self-motivated and result-oriented Engineering Underwriter with strong commercial mindset to join Global Engineering China team, based in Beijing.
Key focuses of this role are:
- To assist China Engineering team in developing and managing engineering reinsurance portfolio (combined treaty and facultative)
- To support Company strategy in strengthening our value proposition in China market
- To provide underwriting and technical support across Asia markets on an ad-hoc basis.
Major Responsibilities
- Work with team to build up a sustainable and profitable engineering business portfolio (both treaty and facultative), including infrastructure, IDI, renewable energy, while delivering high‑quality underwriting in line with company philosophy and guidelines
- With support from senior underwriters, timely deliver tailor-made technical service to specific client(s) including underwriting training, site survey for infrastructure, managing MWS for offshore windfarm and TIS for IDI
- Strengthen SR Engineering market leader position by publishing technical articles or papers on selected technical topics, providing tailored reinsurance solution and exploring innovative new product
- Actively support SR China overall business strategy and collaborate closely with cross‑functional teams to deepen client partnerships and deliver sustainable, win‑win solutions.
- Properly maintain underwriting documentation, ensure good data quality in underwriting system and follow up post-bound activities such as premium payment, claim settlement, filing.
- Conduct research on selected technology development initiatives, actively contribute to the Swiss Re Global Engineering community.
- Regularly monitor portfolio performance and closely cooperate with actuary for ensuring proper costing loss reserve
About You
Qualifications & Requirements
- University degree in engineering discipline
- Minimum 3 years of experience in engineering underwriting or claims handling.
- Experience in construction projects or knowledge of building design standards and regulations is an advantage.
- Quick knowledge learner, passionate to learn new technical topics.
- Strong analytical skills and proactive problem-solving approach with ability to translate technical expertise into practical business solutions tailored to client needs.
- Proven team player with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with both internal and external.
- Comfortable working in a fast‑paced, multicultural environment, able to cope with pressure, with the flexibility to adapt to change.
- Good verbal and written communication skills in both Chinese and English.
