Junior Contracts Counsel
About the Role
The Junior Contract Counsel/Specialist is required to:
• Assess client business needs, collaborate with client management and L&H Business Teams and balance client needs and risk mitigation.
• Possess a strong degree of independence to handle BAU drafting for assigned markets!
• Closely collaborate with Client Management and/or cross functional teams to secure thorough understanding of contractual requirements in reviewing, drafting and interpretation.
• Effectively apply guidance provided by Reinsurance Contracts Counsel/Specialist to tailor and provide optimal solutions for the business.
• Coordinate and communicate Swiss Re's position effectively on contract wording issues with partners and clients.
• Apply standard methodology in contract content and ensure consistency of Swiss Re's wording positions across all L&H lines of business.
• Maintain awareness of emerging issues and problematic clauses and raise as required!
• Adhere to internal guidelines in contract processes.
• Leverage and use contracts related tools and systems.
• Contribute to metrics and other ad-hoc reporting for management.
• Support other Contracts Counsel/Specialist in their assigned markets whenever necessary.
• Participate in global and/or Asia projects whenever necessary.
• Deliver market training across Asia and support training of new staff in Asia L&H Contracts Team.
• Handle system updates.
About the Team
The Junior Contracts Counsel/Specialist is a member of the Asia L&H Contracts team (distinct from the Swiss Re Corporate Legal and Compliance Team). The Junior contracts Counsel's role shall have a focus on traditional Reinsurance Life and Health Contracts and responsibilities shall include drafting, review and supporting the negotiation of such contracts whether based on Swiss Re standard templates or otherwise, on third party/external templates.
About You
• Relevant professional experience of 1-3 years, drafting and reviewing legal contracts within any industry, preference will be given to candidates with experience in financial services and (re)insurance industry.
• Sound understanding of legal principles and practices relating to (re)insurance and/or contract law.
• Exposure to drafting a diverse range of legal agreements.
• Excellent written and spoken English language skills!
• Strong cross-cultural communication, problem solver and client centric focus.
• Great teammate.
• Excellent attention to detail and comprehension skills!
• Open to build (re)insurance business knowledge.
• Ability to prioritize and meet turn-around time expectations across multiple markets.
• Ability to work efficiently without direction.
• Successfully communicate with (external) clients and (internal) business partners.
• Ability to support Asia timings.
• Proficiency in written/spoken Chinese (relevant to Beijing Position).
