About the Role
As a Senior Underwriter within our Life & Health Team in Beijing, you will be at the heart of ourunderwriting operations — independently assessing complex risks, building meaningful clientpartnerships, and contributing to the continuous improvement of our underwriting capabilities.This is a role for someone who thrives on intellectual challenge, values collaboration, and isexcited by the intersection of traditional underwriting expertise and emerging data and AI-driveninnovation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assess and underwrite routine, non-routine and complex Life & Health risks independently,including medical, non-medical and financial risks, ensuring decisions are technicallysound, commercially balanced and well-documented
  • Monitor portfolio impact and stay ahead of emerging risk trends to inform underwritingdecisions and recommendations
  • Build and nurture client relationships by providing practical underwriting advice, casesupport, audit feedback and tailored training to clients and internal stakeholders 
  • Communicate underwriting rationale clearly and confidently, supporting product and tenderdiscussions to deliver solutions that balance risk control with sustainable business growth
  • Leverage data, experience studies, claims insights and market observations to supportunderwriting recommendations and contribute to guideline reviews
  • Drive innovation by contributing to rule trees, automated underwriting, AI/data-enabledinitiatives and process improvement activities
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams within Swiss Re to deliver integrated, client-focused solutions

The Life & Health Team at Swiss Re in China is a collaborative and forward-thinking groupdedicated to delivering exceptional reinsurance underwriting services to our Life & Health clientsacross the region. The team works at the intersection of technical underwriting excellence andclient advisory, providing risk assessment, product support, and innovative solutions tailored tothe dynamic Chinese insurance market. With a strong focus on continuous improvement anddigital innovation, the team plays a pivotal role in shaping Swiss Re's Life & Health strategy andgrowth in China.

About You
You are a curious, driven and technically strong underwriting professional who takes ownership ofyour work and brings a collaborative spirit to everything you do. You combine deep underwritingexpertise with excellent communication skills, and you are genuinely excited about the role thatdata and technology are playing in transforming the underwriting landscape. You are comfortableworking independently while also being a valued team player who contributes to the broadersuccess of the team.
We are looking for candidates who meet these requirements:

  • Minimum 7 years' relevant Life & Health insurance or reinsurance underwriting experience,with exposure to complex cases, high-net-worth (HNW) clients, health products or regional business
  • Solid underwriting judgement across medical, non-medical and financial risks, with theability to make independent, balanced and well-documented decisions
  • Strong client communication and stakeholder management skills, with demonstratedexperience in client support, training, audit feedback, and product or tender discussions

These are additional nice to haves:

  • Analytical mindset with interest and experience in data analytics, AI, digital underwriting,rule engines or underwriting analytics
  • Familiarity with automated underwriting platforms or contribution to guideline and rule tree development
  • Experience working in a regional or cross-border reinsurance
    environment with exposure todiverse markets
  • University degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant field such as medicine, actuarialscience, life sciences or business
  • Proficiency in both Mandarin and English, enabling effective communication with localclients and global stakeholders
  • A self-starter mindset
    with curiosity, a growth orientation, and willingness to take onbroader technical and portfolio responsibilities over time
