Contracts Specialist

About the Role

 

Your main responsibilities will include:

•        Act as a trusted contracts specialist for internal and external stakeholders, applying sound professional judgement to resolve complex or ambiguous contractual matters while balancing contractual risk, business objectives and practical execution.

•        Take end-to-end ownership of complex contractual matters, delivering high-quality advice and contract documentation within agreed timelines, including alternative wordings and support for complex negotiations, product development and training.

•        Build strong, long-term relationships with external contacts for assigned client accounts, facilitating effective collaboration and stakeholder alignment.

•        Negotiate directly with clients, as delegated by the Client Manager, to resolve contractual matters and support a positive client experience and ease of doing business with Swiss Re.

•        Translate contractual positions into clear business implications, considering how wording decisions affect clients, operations, risk and the broader reinsurance transaction.

•        Influence senior stakeholders by providing clear, evidence-based recommendations on complex contractual matters, balancing commercial objectives with sound contractual risk management.

•        Maintain strong governance, risk and control standards in contract wordings and processes. Lead or contribute to cross-functional, regional and global initiatives, including guidelines, model wordings (including translations), training and continuous improvement, identifying opportunities to strengthen contracting standards, simplify processes and align ways of working.

•        Use technology, automation and AI responsibly to improve the efficiency and quality of Contracts work, while identifying opportunities to simplify processes and strengthen digital ways of working.

 

About the Team

 

The L&H Contracts team has almost 30 colleagues across 9 countries, covering the US, Canada, LatAm, EMEA, UK, Asia and Australia and reviewing contracts in multiple languages. You will support the LatAm and EMEA regions.

 

About You

 

We are looking for a detail-oriented and analytical professional who can prioritise effectively, work independently and communicate clearly. You take ownership of your work, collaborate effectively with others and bring a pragmatic approach to solving problems.

 

What we would like you to have:

•        Legal background / training or familiarity with our reinsurance contract provisions; law degree preferred.

•        Fluency in English required; Portuguese is a plus.

•        Professional experience (minimum 4+ years) in legal and/or contract law.

•        Understanding of Life and Health (L&H) products, risks, controls, governance, business unit functions and processes (e.g., claims, reinsurance administration, underwriting, actuarial) is a huge plus

•        Strong ability to analyse complex reinsurance wordings, apply contract principles effectively and communicate clear, well-reasoned recommendations to stakeholders.

•        Ability to share expertise through training, knowledge sharing and support for colleagues, helping strengthen contracting capability and consistency.

•        Digital agility and confidence in using technology and AI to support professional work, with the judgement to critically assess and validate outputs.
