About the Role

The Head Reinsurance Legal Latin America ("LatAm") is a senior position which demands high energy and self-confidence in solving legal, regulatory, compliance and operational challenges. It also requires excellent drafting and analytical skills and a process minded approach to solutions.

 

The position location is flexible to one of the following offices: Mexico city, Colombia or Sao Paulo. U.S. Locations may be considered based on qualifications of candidates.

Scope of work

As Head Reinsurance Legal LatAm you will lead a Legal team for Business Unit Reinsurance's LatAm business.  In this position, you report to the General Counsel Americas and are a member of the Americas Reinsurance Legal Team, the Latin America Management Team and the Latin America Operations Committee. 

A summary of what is expected in this role includes:

- Displaying knowledge of legal and regulatory regimes across the LatAm region, and the ability to advise key stakeholders on legal and regulatory matters

- Supporting business growth while also serving as a gatekeeper to prevent against legal, regulatory and reputational harm

- Maintaining legal oversight for Reinsurance legal entities operating in the region

- Leading a regional team of legal professionals while motivating strong performance

- Collaborating with other teams supporting the LatAm region

- Supporting Division Legal & Compliance's Core Competencies & Behaviors

- Developing practices, procedures and controls designed to promote operational excellence and cost-efficient use of internal and external legal resources

  • You have a deep understanding, or the ability to quickly learn and navigate, the business and operations of Business Unit Reinsurance.
  • You have excellent analytical skills, drafting skills, presentation and communication skills.
  • You are confident in your ability to drive matters independently. You demonstrate accountability and resilience when facing challenges and you are fully reliable, responsive and have high energy.
  • You are recognized by clients for the pragmatic advice you provide, your sense of urgency and agility/commercial mindset, and by colleagues for being an excellent teammate, always happy to assist others and for your good sense of humor.
  • You are an experienced lawyer with expertise in LatAm legal and regulatory matters.  You have a minimum of 10 years (re)insurance legal experience in a well-respected law firm or financial services organization.
