Treaty Underwriter

Come join Swiss Re's as a property treaty underwriter in the Latin America desk! Join a fast-paced team that is dedicated to servicing the largest P&C clients in the region! Our team assesses the risk of our client portfolios from both an underwriting and actuarial lenses for proportional and non-proportional treaties. We work closely in a collaborative environment with a cross-functional team to develop property solutions for our clients.

This is an outstanding opportunity to develop your analytical and negotiation skills, to build internal and external key relationships, and to become an authority in modelling, data analysis, pricing and reinsurance underwriting.

The role requires a strong balance of technical and interpersonal skills, with the ability to focus on technical aspects as well as to facilitate varying degrees of communication and teamwork.

Treaty Underwriter Responsibilities

  • Use data, analytics, and insights to assess risk exposures of our clients' portfolios, with a focus on the most complex and exciting deals.
  • In partnership with the cross-functional team, drive discussions about pricing strategy and ensure the application of proper terms and conditions in contract wordings.
  • Provide insights and product-development support to clients to improve their property business.
  • Work and collaborate with a diverse group of internal cross-functional teams which include client markets, business development, public sector, structuring, among others.
  • Drive the definition of our portfolio strategy, execute portfolio initiatives, and supervise the performance of our book of business.
  • Define parameters, indices, and market curves to support underwriting decisions.
  • Serve as a reference point for (re)insurance market trends, risk landscape, and regulatory developments that could bring new business opportunities or that could affect our business.

Minimum Qualifications

  • A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or equivalent, preferably in fields such as mathematics, actuarial science, economics, or engineering.
  • Multi-year professional experience with relevance for the job profile. Knowledge of the insurance industry is a plus.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, ability to transform data into actionable insights.
  • Strong computer and software usage skills. Familiarity with programming in any language is a plus.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills as well as presentation skills.
  • Teammate who lives Swiss Re's Values and encourages others through passion and dedication.
  • Innovative and creative.
  • Proficient in English and Spanish. Portuguese is a plus.
  • Ability to travel.
