About the role

The product owner role bridges the gap between product strategy and development. You will be responsible for the product backlog, organizing sprints, and maximizing value delivered to the organization.
Responsibilities
- Develop deep product knowledge and domain expertise thoroughly understanding and assuming ownership of all product capabilities

Familiarity with life insurance domain and life insurance application process

Work with one or more Agile teams through an in-person or remote capacity

Conduct and facilitate requirements reviews with the external parties while providing support and ensuring timely delivery of capabilities.

Program Increment (PI) and Sprint Execution:
-
Work directly with Product/Business Managers (PMs), aligned Product Owners and Value Stream Lead (VSL) to create, own and define product backlogs utilizing the preferred project delivery tool (currently Azure DevOps)

Refine features into user stories as required understanding the "what" should be built and "why"

Draft user stories in accordance with Agile best practices

Define acceptance criteria which may include reviewing a test strategy and providing an overview to the UAT Team for execution.

Collaborate with scrum team to establish team best practices

Collaborate with internal stakeholders, PMs and VSL to ensure consensus on sprint priorities and scope of proposed enhancements including product releases and upgrades

Accept completed work from the delivery teams within the sprints ensuring Definition of Done (DoD) is upheld

Conduct and facilitate sprint and innovation demos

Monitor and understand inter-connected projects

Coordinate cross-product needs, dependencies and deliveries

Support PI knowledge transfer sessions
Other Qualifications
-
5+ years of experience in product ownership - including backlog management, story authoring and mapping and acceptance criteria definition.

Experience working in an Agile environment (ideally SAFe)

Experience in the insurance industry preferred

Technical background with knowledge of software development and web technologies

Strong business aptitude and ability to frame problems with a viewpoint to achieve the business goal

Ability to collaborate and work autonomously

Strong operational and problem-solving mindset, decisive with an extremely proactive and assertive attitude

Outstanding leadership, communication, influencing and negotiation skills
