AI Engineering Intern (50 % FTE, student role)
Kick start your AI career with real projects, global impact, and a team that helps you grow.
About the Role
This isn't about building AI for the sake of it; you'll create solutions that actually matter. From leveraging AI to read complex documents to building AI assistants that make everyone's job easier, your work will directly impact how one of the world's leading reinsurance companies operates.
What You Will Work On
You'll dive into exciting, cutting-edge AI projects that solve real business challenges. Here's a taste of what you could be building:
- Smart document processing engines that automatically extract key information pieces in seconds, work that would take humans hours to complete manually
- AI assistants and agents that summarize complex texts, check if they follow company guidelines, and speed up workflows across the business
- Next-gen evaluation tools that help us understand how well our AI products are performing and ensure they're reliable enough for real-world use
- Powerful data pipelines that can process large amounts of messy, real-world information
The best part? You won't just be coding in isolation. You'll work alongside experienced team members and business partners to understand the problems we're solving and why they matter.
About the Team
We're Swiss Re's biggest data science team, a friendly, ambitious group building AI solutions used across the entire company. Think of us as an internal AI startup: we work with teams all over the world to design and deliver tools that make their everyday work smarter and faster.
Our products are created right here in Bratislava but used globally. We care about solid data science skills, but we equally value engineering excellence, scalable infrastructure, and delivering reliable, production‑ready AI.
About You
You’re interested in AI and keen to learn how to apply it to real problems. You enjoy both building technical solutions and understanding the human needs behind them. Most importantly, you're eager to learn and grow in a team that supports your development.
In order to be successful in the role, you need to meet the following criteria:
- You are studying Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Physics, or a related field
- Working knowledge of Python (or similar)
- Experience with Generative AI and/or Natural Language Processing
If you also have the following experience and interests, it is a huge plus:
- Background in software engineering
- Experience with distributed computing
- Enthusiasm for continuous learning and trying new approaches
