Data Governance Manager (80-100%)

About the Role  

In this pivotal position, you'll operationalize Swiss Re's Group Data Governance Framework, ensuring our data is trusted, compliant, and strategically leveraged. You'll collaborate with colleagues in Zurich and other global locations, providing both strategic insight and operational excellence that directly contributes to our journey of becoming a truly data-driven organization. 

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

  • Develop and maintain data governance policies, standards, and guidelines in collaboration with domain teams and key stakeholders
  • Drive implementation of the Data Ownership Framework, ensuring clear roles, responsibilities, and accountability organization-wide
  • Design and maintain governance-related controls to support regulatory compliance and internal risk mitigation
  • Support data quality initiatives by understanding and applying Data Quality Indicators (DQIs) and issue management processes
  • Collaborate with architects to ensure governance practices align with data architecture principles for a consistent, scalable data landscape
  • Create and deliver training materials, eLearning modules, presentations, and user guides to build data governance capabilities
  • Champion adoption of data governance and quality tools (e.g., data catalogue, data quality platforms), ensuring they integrate effectively into business processes

You'll join the Group Data Governance team, a central function within Swiss Re's Group Data Services. Our mission is to establish a trusted, well-governed data ecosystem that supports regulatory needs, unlocks business value, and drives innovation.

We define and implement Group-wide governance standards and processes, working closely with business units, group functions, and IT. Our focus includes data ownership, risk controls, and tooling - ensuring consistent and responsible data practices across the organisation.

About You 

You're a strategic thinker with a passion for data governance and a talent for translating complex frameworks into practical solutions. You thrive in collaborative environments where you can influence stakeholders at all levels while maintaining a keen eye for detail. Your blend of technical knowledge and business acumen allows you to bridge gaps between technical teams and business functions. 

 

We are looking for candidates who meet these requirements: 

  • Solid experience in data governance, data management, or data quality, preferably gained in a regulated and dynamic environment
  • Experience developing data governance policies with knowledge of risk and control frameworks for compliant and effective data management
  • Understanding of how effective data governance supports business value, regulatory compliance, and strategic decision-making
  • Experience implementing or managing data governance frameworks (e.g., DAMA, DCAM) with familiarity with relevant tools (e.g., Collibra, data catalogues)
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with ability to collaborate with senior leaders and subject matter experts 

 

These are additional nice to haves: 

  •  Experience in financial services or insurance industry
  • Knowledge of data privacy regulations and their implications for data governance
  • Experience with change management and driving cultural transformation around data
  • Project management experience, particularly in data-related initiatives
  • Ability to work in a global, multicultural environment with diverse stakeholders 

 

For Slovakia the base salary range for this position is between [EUR 3,300] and [EUR 5,400] per month (for a full-time role). The specific salary offered considers:​

  • the requirements, scope, complexity and responsibilities of the role, ​
  • the applicant’s own profile including education/qualifications, expertise, specialisation, skills and experience.​

In addition to your base salary, Swiss Re offers an attractive performance-based variable compensation component, designed to recognise your achievements. Further you will enjoy a variety of global and location specific benefits.​
