Data Integration & BI Platform Engineer

Are you passionate about building robust data integration platforms that power business intelligence across an enterprise? Join our team and take ownership of critical data infrastructure that enables Swiss Re to make data-driven decisions. In this role, you'll architect, evolve, and safeguard our data integration and BI presentation platforms, ensuring they operate with maximum reliability, security, and efficiency.

About the Role

As a Data Integration & BI Platform Engineer, you'll be the technical authority for our Azure Data Factory Self-Hosted Integration Runtimes (SHIR) and Microsoft BI stack (SSIS/SSRS/PBIRS). You'll balance platform stability with innovation, implementing standardized change processes while continuously improving our architecture to meet evolving business needs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Own the platform strategy for SHIR and MSBI, including reference architectures, standards, roadmaps, and deprecation paths
  • Drive reliability engineering by establishing SLOs/SLIs and using an error-budget model to prioritize platform improvements
  • Lead incident response for major platform issues, providing technical direction and stakeholder communications
  • Manage change and releases through standardized processes with automated validation and clear rollback plans
  • Develop monitoring solutions that provide actionable insights into platform health and performance
  • Prioritize the technical backlog based on stability, compliance, scaling, and cost considerations
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation including runbooks, architectural decision records, and support models
  • Mentor support teams to ensure clean handoffs and succession readiness across support tiers

About the Team

You'll be joining the MS Data Services team, responsible for delivering shared platform services specifically focused on Azure Data Factory Self-Hosted Integration Runtimes (SHIR) and MSBI (SSIS/SSRS/PBIRS) as a platform product. Our team ensures that data flows seamlessly across the organization, enabling business units to access the insights they need.

About You

You're a technical expert who thrives on solving complex infrastructure challenges. You understand that reliability comes from careful design, rigorous testing, and proactive monitoring. You're comfortable leading technical discussions with stakeholders at all levels and can translate business needs into technical requirements. Your experience with data integration platforms gives you the confidence to make architectural decisions that balance performance, security, and maintainability.

We are looking for candidates who meet these requirements:
  • Expert-level knowledge of Azure Data Factory Self-Hosted Integration Runtimes (SHIR) architecture, including scale-out, high availability, version alignment, and patching strategies
  • Deep expertise with MSBI stack (SSIS/SSRS/PBIRS), including catalog management, security models, subscription architecture, and performance tuning
  • Strong background in platform security practices including PAM/JIT, RBAC, TLS/PKI, secrets rotation, and audit trails
  • Proven experience with automation using PowerShell and/or Python, and familiarity with CI/CD processes using tools like Azure DevOps
  • 6+ years in platform/infrastructure/application operations with at least 3+ years owning SHIR and/or MSBI at scale (for L3 position) or 9+ years total experience with platform ownership for L4 position
These are additional nice to haves:
  • Working knowledge of T-SQL, execution plans, and wait-based triage
  • Experience with SSAS tabular processing, partitions, and capacity management
  • Infrastructure as Code (IaC) skills using Bicep or Terraform
  • Certifications such as AZ-104, AZ-400, DP-300, or AZ-500
  • Experience managing vendor relationships and setting SLAs/OLAs

For Slovakia, the base salary range for this position is between 3 800€ and 6 300€ for a full-time role.

The specific salary offered considers:

In the situation where you do not meet all the requirements or you significantly exceed these, the offered salary may be below or above the advertised range.
