Edge Connectivity Architect (Hybrid)

Are you an energetic leader, dedicated to shape the edge architecture in the Edge & Connectivity Services unit? As Edge Connectivity Architect you will steer and evolve our infrastructure in securing and improving Swiss Re's public network exposure on which Swiss Re relies centrally.

 

About the Role:

Together with Product Owners, Engineers, and Scrum Masters you will resolve challenges with a clear focus on execution and ensure that the technology portfolio and third-party integrations meet the highest standards. This ensures Swiss Re’s operational stability while providing new foundational capabilities for IT teams across the firm. As a senior technology leader, you will shape and align the technology strategy, assure operational stability, continually address technical debt to drive simplicity and take central accountability for Swiss Re's network edge while working with a wide-ranging stakeholder base, demanding frequent interactions and a professional, forthcoming behaviour from the team as a whole and from a humble leader acting as a role model.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Act as technical leader with exemplary behavior, actively influencing the architectural decision making and contributing to improve and streamline the technology footprint in shaping a coherent and secure service edge architecture

  • Act as a hands-on architect exemplifying his/her coding skills in fostering process automation and the development of APIs and integration patterns

  • Develop a vision and continuously improve and maintain the architecture of Swiss Re's edge service

  • Collaborate closely with important 3rd party providers at executive and engineering levels and lead your teams in applying modern technologies and principles in various areas ranging from Security, API-Gateways and classical connectivity across the Swiss Re backbone

  • Steer and govern the implementation of cost effective and highly available network capabilities that ensure the security of our infrastructure and enable new modern services

 

About the Team


Edge & Connectivity Services is a newly formed area consisting of three teams (Cloudflare, Gateway Services and Connectivity Services) that address the challenges of hosting Swiss Re's public endpoints and the connectivity within the Swiss Re landscape. The teams deal with securing the edge, hosting gateways for APIs as well as data integration and are centrally responsible for connectivity across the Swiss Re backbone and for general addressability. This includes internal endpoints in both the private and the public clouds.

 

About you:

You are experienced in working with key partners and suppliers, making sure they meet the company's high standards. You set the strategy for integrating technology and make sure these solutions are scalable, efficient, and meet our cybersecurity standards.

 

As Edge Connectivity Architect, you are an experienced professional with a hands-on mentality and operational skills. In particular, you possess

 

  • Extensive engineering expert knowledge in an enterprise infrastructure environment, as an IT professional with a broad technical understanding of an enterprise network and its challenges in global deployment

  • Conceptual knowledge of API gateways, OAuth2 grant types and token-based access control as well as of modern web application architecture (SPAs)

  • Working knowledge in the areas of Cloud Network services, secure gateways, WAFs, DDI, CDN, SDWAN, LAN, firewalls and Internet breakouts/proxies

  • Awareness of cyber threats and the importance of governed Internet breakouts with layer-7 egress control

  • Experience with cloud-enabled networking and Security Service Edge products

  • Experience with implementation of connectivity automation technologies or connectivity optimization

  • Ability to nurture a positive Engineering culture, client-oriented behaviour and can-do attitude

  • Code writing skills in Java and knowledge of modern frameworks like Spring Boot

  • Knowledge of enterprise integration patterns and infrastructure automation

 

 

The minimum gross monthly base salary for this role is 3300 EUR full time. Our final offer to you will be set up fairly, considering the skills and experience that you bring to the Swiss Re Group.
