About the Role

 

As Engineering Director in Finance Data and Technology (D&T) Actuarial Reserving, you'll be at the intersection of technology and business, co-leading a vital function that powers Swiss Re's financial backbone. You'll drive architectural excellence, foster innovation, and build highperforming engineering teams that deliver mission-critical solutions for actuarial professionals across the globe. 

 

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Strategic Leadership: Define and execute the technology strategy for your domain, aligned with business goals and Swiss Re's standards
  • Team Development: Lead and mentor Engineering Managers, overseeing people management, performance feedback, and development planning
  • Architectural Excellence: Analyze high-level business requirements, make key architectural decisions, and establish technical standards across teams
  • Quality Assurance: Be accountable for non-functional aspects such as performance, reliability, and security
  • Resource Optimization: Oversee resource planning and cloud cost management while continuously optimizing actuarial reserving system landscapes
  • Cross-functional Collaboration: Work seamlessly with actuaries, Product & Delivery Directors, and operation teams to ensure business needs are met
  • Governance & Compliance: Ensure adherence to development best practices, internal standards, and regulatory requirements
  • Innovation: Drive continuous improvement in engineering practices, tooling, and delivery pipelines 

 

About the Team 

 

You'll be joining the actuarial reserving unit which consists of two major teams (P&C and L&H) with approximately 90 internal and external team members. These teams have full responsibility (design, build, run) for all landscapes in P&C RE and L&H RE reserving. In this role, you will colead the unit together with the product & delivery director, ensuring seamless collaboration between engineering and product functions.

You combine deep engineering expertise with strong leadership skills and have a passion for building high-performing teams that deliver exceptional results.

 

We are looking for candidates who meet these requirements:

 

  • Proven leadership experience in engineering management within insurance/financial services
  • Strong background as a software engineer with expertise in modern software architecture and cloud platforms (Azure)
  • Deep understanding of data engineering, including working on a Spark-based platform
  • Excellent relational database skills and track record working with structured financial data
  • Experience leading distributed teams across different locations and cultures 

 

These are additional nice to haves:

 

  • Experience with Java, Python, Databricks, and Angular
  • Proven experience in the actuarial reserving business domain (exposure to both P&C and L&H is a plus)
  • Solid understanding of actuarial modeling platforms including market standard software and integrations to financial reporting systems
  • Experience implementing complex actuarial and/or finance system capabilities
  • Ability to lead through influence and drive change across complex environments
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills in English 

 

For Slovakia the base salary range for this position is between EUR 5200 and EUR 8700 per month (for a full-time role). The specific salary offered considers:​

  • the requirements, scope, complexity and responsibilities of the role, ​
  • the applicant’s own profile including education/qualifications, expertise, specialisation, skills and experience.​

 

In addition to your base salary, Swiss Re offers an attractive performance-based variable compensation component, designed to recognise your achievements. Further you will enjoy a variety of global and location specific benefits.​
