About the role:
In this role you would have the outstanding possibility to work on some of the most exciting engineering challenges the industry can offer. You craft and implement reliable, highly parallelized applications hosted on Azure, our public cloud hosting platform of choice.
In close collaboration with natural catastrophe experts, you lead the design, implementation and testing of our core applications.

The NatCat Engineering Manager leads the engineering organization responsible for delivering and operating critical Natural Catastrophe (NatCat) platforms and systems. The role combines engineering leadership, people management, technical strategy, and operational accountability to ensure reliable, scalable, and business-aligned technology solutions that support Swiss Re's business strategies.
You will drive engineering excellence, enable high-performing teams, partner with business stakeholders, and ensure successful delivery of strategic initiatives across the NatCat technology landscape. The role requires balancing long-term platform evolution with operational stability and business delivery commitments.

Key Responsibilities:
Engineering Leadership & People Management

Lead, mentor, and develop a team of software engineers, platform engineers, and technical specialists.

Create a culture of ownership, accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

Conduct performance, career development, hiring, succession planning, and talent management activities.

Support engineers in growing technical expertise, leadership capabilities, and AI adoption practices.
Technical Strategy & Architecture
-
Define and drive the technology roadmap for NatCat platforms and services.

Guide architectural decisions and ensure alignment with enterprise standards and strategic objectives.

Promote engineering best practices across software development, testing, security, cloud adoption, and operational excellence.

Drive modernization initiatives and continuous improvements to platform scalability, resiliency, and maintainability.

Champion adoption of AI-assisted engineering practices and emerging technologies.
Product Delivery & Execution
-
Own successful delivery of engineering commitments across NatCat products and programs.

Partner with Product Owners, Architects, Business Analysts, and business stakeholders to convert strategy into executable roadmaps.

Manage priorities, dependencies, capacity planning, and resource allocation.

Ensure delivery predictability, quality, and transparency through data-driven decision making.
Required Qualifications:

Significant experience in software engineering, platform engineering, or technology delivery.

Demonstrated success managing large scale business-critical applications and services.

Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.

Strong problem-solving and decision-making capabilities.
Leadership Skills

Experience leading engineering teams in complex enterprise environments.

Technical Skills

Strong understanding of distributed systems, cloud platforms, and enterprise architecture.

Familiarity with DevOps, CI/CD, observability, automation, and platform engineering practices.

Knowledge of software quality, security, and operational excellence principles.

Background in software development (preferably in Java)

Experience with data-intensive and analytics-driven applications is advantageous.
For Slovakia the base salary range for this position is between [EUR 3,800] and [EUR 6,300] per month (for a full-time role). The specific salary offered considers:
- the requirements, scope, complexity and responsibilities of the role,
- the applicant’s own profile including education/qualifications, expertise, specialisation, skills and experience.
In addition to your base salary, Swiss Re offers an attractive performance-based variable compensation component, designed to recognise your achievements. Further you will enjoy a variety of global and location specific benefits.
