Head of P&C Re Business Application Support (maternity cover)

About the Role 

As Head of Business Application Support, you will be responsible for the availability, stability, and continuous improvement of our business applications. Your focus will be on operational excellence, strong service delivery, and building a high-performing support function that business teams can rely on. 

You'll lead application support teams, establish service standards, and drive continuous improvement through better monitoring, incident management, and automation. Collaboration will be at the heart of your role—you'll work closely with product, engineering, and business stakeholders to ensure smooth operations and fast, effective issue resolution. 

 

Key Responsibilities 

  • Ensure application stability & availability: Oversee day-to-day operations and ensure business applications run reliably and securely. 
  • Incident & problem management: Lead resolution of incidents, drive root cause analysis, and prevent recurrence through proactive measures. 
  • Service quality & SLAs: Define, monitor, and improve Service Level Agreements, ensuring transparent reporting on performance. 
  • Performance monitoring & reporting: Build dashboards and metrics to track application health, backlog, and response times; share insights with stakeholders. 
  • Change & release support: Oversee deployment of upgrades, patches, and fixes, ensuring minimal disruption to the business. 
  • Continuous improvement: Optimize processes, implement monitoring tools, and automate repetitive tasks to improve efficiency. 
  • Leadership & coaching: Inspire, develop, and retain a talented application support team in a collaborative, inclusive environment. 
  • Cross-team collaboration: Partner with product, engineering, and delivery leaders to ensure alignment and smooth handovers from development into support. 
  • Key initiative delivery: Lead projects that improve resilience, user experience, and efficiency across the application support landscape. 

 

About the Team 

You'll be joining a dedicated team responsible for maintaining the reliability and performance of business-critical applications that power our global insurance risk assessment platform. The team works at the intersection of technology and business, ensuring that our systems meet the highest standards of availability, security, and performance to support decision-making worldwide.

We are looking for candidates who meet these requirements: 

  • Leadership experience in managing business-critical application support or operations teams 
  • Operational expertise in service management (e.g., ITIL or similar) and improving KPIs such as uptime, resolution times, and customer satisfaction 
  • Strong communication skills, able to build trust and explain complex issues to non-technical audiences 
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills, with experience in root cause analysis and proactive prevention 
  • Experience with incident, change, and release management processes 
  • Customer and user orientation, with a focus on service quality and reliability 
  • Collaborative, inclusive leadership style, able to coach, motivate, and retain high-performing teams 
  • Familiarity with agile and DevOps environments 

 

These are additional nice to haves: 

  • Experience in the insurance or financial services industry 
  • Knowledge of cloud infrastructure and monitoring tools 

 

For Slovakia the base salary range for this position is between [EUR 5,200] and [EUR 8,700] per month (for a full-time role). The specific salary offered considers:​

  • the requirements, scope, complexity and responsibilities of the role, ​
  • the applicant’s own profile including education/qualifications, expertise, specialisation, skills and experience.​

In addition to your base salary, Swiss Re offers an attractive performance-based variable compensation component, designed to recognise your achievements. Further you will enjoy a variety of global and location specific benefits.​

Eligibility may vary depending on the terms of Swiss Re policies and your employment contract.​
