Java Application Engineer
About the Role
NEXUS is Swiss Re’s strategic technology platform for Enterprise Data Exchange that we use to offer a centralized, integrated, and standardized way to exchange data between applications. Over the last 12 years we have developed NEXUS with customized features that are used by all Swiss Re’s clients. In this role as Java Engineer, you will:
- Collaborate closely with our business to understand and address engineering requirements
- Participate actively in solution design and implementation processes
- Deliver high-quality work by applying standard methodologies
- Continuously improve and maintain existing applications
- Ensure compliance with Swiss Re security requirements
- Offer technical expertise and guidance to business analysts and other team members

The main focus for the team is the development and support of the Group Information Broker. The purpose of the application is to exchange data between publisher and subscriber(s) within well-defined SLA's. The meta-information details to process the publisher/subscriber data is defined in contracts. The application takes care of the consuming the data from the publisher endpoint, execute a structural data validation and data transformation before it is stored on the subscriber endpoint. This is a critical component of the global IT infrastructure as well as being a cornerstone of the Data Governance strategy. Examples of upcoming priorities include enhancements to support clients in the private and public cloud, adding connectors for new data sources types, implementation of new features
About You

Requirements
- A full stack development background and demonstrable experience in all application tiers - UI, client / server applications, backend processing and databases
- Strong knowledge of Java and its core concepts
- Experience with Java EE or Spring framework for building enterprise applications
- RESTful APIs: experience designing, implementing, and consuming APIs; solid understanding of HTTP, JSON, status codes
- Familiarity with relational databases such as PostgreSQL, Oracle, and experience with SQL
- Proficiency with Git and common workflows (branching, pull requests)
- Good communication skills with a customer-oriented and flexible mindset
- Eager to learn new technologies
Nice to have
- Experience with TypeScript/JavaScript; Angular is a plus
For Slovakia the base salary range for this position is between [EUR 2,700] and [EUR 4,500] per month (for a full-time role). The specific salary offered considers:
- the requirements, scope, complexity and responsibilities of the role,
- the applicant’s own profile including education/qualifications, expertise, specialisation, skills and experience.
