We build and operate the Costing Hub – Swiss Re’s core solution for P&C treaty costing. Our team works with Java, Spring Boot, PostgreSQL, and cloud-native technologies to deliver scalable, high-performance solutions. About the Role
As a Java Developer, you will design, develop, and maintain backend services that power Swiss Re’s Global Costing Hub. Your work will focus on building scalable, secure, and high-performing solutions for treaty costing.
You will collaborate within a large, cross-functional team, contributing to the full development lifecycle – from story preparation to deployment and monitoring. This role offers the opportunity to work with modern technologies and influence the evolution of a critical enterprise platform.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and maintain Java-based applications.
- Ensure system reliability, scalability, and performance through rigorous testing and monitoring.
- Participate in code reviews, architecture discussions, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Support integration with other Swiss Re platforms and third-party services.
- Maintain documentation and contribute to knowledge sharing within the team.
- Staying on top of emerging trends using up to date technologies for development and testing.
About you
We’re looking for a passionate developer who thrives in a fast-paced, agile environment. You are collaborative, curious, and committed to engineering excellence.
Must have:
- Dedicated Java developer with solid engineering practices, including code reviews, unit testing, and refactoring.
- Experienced with Spring Boot and Hibernate, and eager to learn and master new frameworks and libraries.
- Skilled in the Java build tool ecosystem (Maven, Gradle).
- Hands-on experience with continuous integration and deployment tools like Azure DevOps.
- An open-minded problem solver.
- Experience with relational databases (PostgreSQL or similar).
- Self-driven, responsible, and result-oriented mindset.
Nice to have:
- Frontend literacy (C# or TypeScript/Angular) to collaborate cross-stack is a plus.
- Experience with cloud platforms (Azure preferred) and distributed systems.
- Familiarity with observability tools and performance tuning.
- Exposure to underwriting or financial systems is a plus.
For Slovakia the base salary range for this position is between [EUR 2,700] and [EUR 4,500] per month (for a full-time role). The specific salary offered considers:
- the requirements, scope, complexity and responsibilities of the role,
- the applicant’s own profile including education/qualifications, expertise, specialisation, skills and experience.
In addition to your base salary, Swiss Re offers an attractive performance-based variable compensation component, designed to recognise your achievements. Further you will enjoy a variety of global and location specific benefits.
