Java Development Engineer

About the role

We offer an excellent opportunity for a software engineer to work on real-life enterprise-scale systems, using Java and related technologies. You will grow your skills by working in an expert team, delivering cloud solutions and proof-of-concept projects. You will also be involved in analysis, design, build, continuous integration/delivery and testing tasks. The team is international with a lead in Bratislava.

Your responsibilities will be:

• Developing components and services, according to specification
• Assuring structured, long-term reliable and maintainable software
• Producing documentation and reviewing the current one
• Helping others with knowledge of the system

About the team

We have a distributed project team, with various types of members and partners, all working agile. We deliver solutions, which valuate a reinsurance business. That involves streaming and processing large data volumes (tens of Terabytes). And that requires automation, coordination, visualisation, control and auditing.

For that, we are building a set of components/services, using various technologies and approaches, not limited to cloud, microservices, Java, JavaScript frameworks, etc. Those services, together with third party tools, form a system we modify and enhance.

About you

Your knowledge:

• You possess a computer engineering/science degree and have a proven experience
• You are a driven Java programmer, knowing Maven, GIT, SQL, web services, etc ..
• You are familiar with design approaches/patterns and programming techniques; thus, you can implement algorithms and challenge specifications if inevitable.
• You enjoy exploring sophisticated information structures and IT solutions
• Your spoken and written form of the English language allows you to communicate efficiently
• Microsoft Azure knowledge is an advantage, but not vital

• Is analytical and problem solving, accompanied by curiosity, creativity, critical thinking - an engineer's mentality
• You take responsibility for solving issues with attention to details and you can timely handle your own workload in an organized way
• Some interpersonal skills are favorable; We prefer concise and articulate written/verbal communication with a collaborative spirit
• You are eager to explore new technologies and innovative ideas
• You look for an ongoing improvement of the assigned product and (of course) your skills!
• You have a real passion for software development!

Minimum base salary for this job from 3100 EUR gross/month/full time. Our offer to you may be higher based on your skills and experience and will include additional rewards and benefits. We are required by law to disclose basic wage component (minimum salary) for the advertised positions. We carefully consider your professional competencies, qualifications and experience in our compensation package and/or when offering you other positions. Our compensation philosophy is to pay fairly, also considering market situation and the value employees may bring to Swiss Re.
