Junior Economist

About the role
In this role based in Bratislava at Group Economic and Sigma Research, you will actively contribute to economic and re/insurance market research projects on a regional and global level. The role is an excellent stepping-stone within the company and as such, you should expect a dynamic environment and be able to demonstrate flexibility, adaptability and autonomy in your daily work.
Key tasks and responsibilities include:
- Work with various experienced macro and insurance analysts/economists within the team on global/regional economic and insurance trends and research projects. This includes 1) assessing and forecasting economic and insurance variables (GDP, inflation, interest rates, longer-term structural changes, insurance data trends), 2) supporting risk analysis and monitoring tools, and 3) project management activities and written contributions to our research reports
- Conduct literature and data review dedicated to various research projects
- Support overarching thought-leadership topics and client outreach by preparing high-quality and visually appealing presentations and supporting work on publications
- Support Group Chief Economist and Head Macro Strategy in various tasks (e.g. writing background notes, designing slides, some administrative tasks, etc)
About the team
Group Economic & Sigma Research (GESR) is part of the Swiss Re Institute, and is responsible for analysing and forecasting the global macroeconomic and insurance market environment. GESR holds a crucial role in steering Swiss Re's capital allocation and drives thought leadership on topics of strategic importance. The team is located across geographies, is highly visible and interacts with a wide variety of key partners and decision makers across Swiss Re and externally.
About you

- Mature and proactive; showing a high degree of own initiative
- Strong interest in/motivation to learn about insurance/reinsurance
- Ability to break down, communicate and visualize often complex concepts in an easy and digestible way. Both written and verbal communication skills are excellent in English; other languages like German a plus
- Completed university degree in Economics, Finance or Data Science, ideally at Master level.
- Proficiency in MS Office applications (Excel, PowerPoint, Word) is required
- Econometric and programming skills in one of the major statistical softwares/programming languages (R, Stata, Matlab, Python) is a distinct advantage
For Slovakia the base salary range for this position is between EUR 1900 and EUR 3200 per month (for a full-time role). The specific salary offered considers:
the requirements, scope, complexity and responsibilities of the role,
the applicant’s own profile including education/qualifications, expertise, specialization, skills and experience.
In addition to your base salary, you may be eligible for additional rewards and benefits including an attractive performance-based bonus.
