Quality Assurance / Test Engineer - Product Area Research & Sustainability

Are you someone who genuinely cares about quality, loves understanding how complex systems fit together, and wants to make a real impact from the very start of your career? If you enjoy asking "why" as much as "how" - and you're ready to grow in a collaborative, innovation-driven environment - this could be the perfect next step for you.

About the Role

We are looking for a motivated and curious Junior Quality Assurance (QA) / Test Engineer to join our Product Area Research & Sustainability, part of Risk Management IT. In this role, you will be at the heart of ensuring the reliability, quality, and trustworthiness of digital products that support research, sustainability, and risk-informed decision-making across the organisation.

You will work closely with product managers, developers, data engineers, and business stakeholders in agile teams - gaining hands-on exposure to business-critical platforms and real-world risk and sustainability use cases. This is an excellent opportunity for someone at an early stage of their career who is eager to learn, grow, and build a strong foundation in quality engineering.

Key Responsibilities

  • Contribute to functional and exploratory testing of applications, data pipelines, and integrations within the product area

  • Design, execute, and document test cases based on requirements, user stories, and acceptance criteria

  • Collaborate closely with developers and product managers to identify, analyse, and clearly describe defects

  • Help ensure endtoend quality across systems by understanding upstream and downstream dependencies

  • Contribute to maintaining and improving test documentation, test data, and quality standards

  • Leverage modern tooling, including AI-assisted techniques where appropriate, to improve test design, coverage, and efficiency

  • Participate in agile ceremonies (planning, reviews, retrospectives) and actively contribute a quality perspective

  • Gradually build an understanding of business processes and domain concepts to improve test coverage and relevance

About the Team

The Research & Sustainability product area is a dynamic, cross-functional part of Risk Management IT at Swiss Re. Rather than operating as a single dedicated team, we work as a collaborative community of shared resources - bringing together diverse skills and perspectives across a broad technology stack to deliver impactful solutions.

We support a wide range of critical platforms and products serving Group Risk Management, Group Underwriting, and the Swiss Re Institute - enabling data-driven decision-making, risk analytics, and sustainability insights at scale. Our work sits at the intersection of technology, research, and business impact, making quality engineering a truly meaningful and visible function within the area.

About You

You care deeply about quality and take pride in helping teams deliver reliable, meaningful products. You're not just looking for bugs - you understand that great testing is about building confidence in systems and enabling teams to move forward with clarity. You're curious, structured in your thinking, and comfortable raising concerns early. You thrive in collaborative environments and are excited by the opportunity to learn from experienced engineers while contributing your own perspective from day one.

We are looking for candidates who meet these requirements:

  • Basic understanding of software development lifecycles and agile ways of working

  • Ability to think analytically and structured, with strong attention to detail

  • Curiosity and willingness to understand how systems work endtoend, not only single components

  • Good communication skills and confidence to ask questions and raise quality concerns early

These are additional nice to haves:

  • Basic knowledge of SQL, APIs, or datacentric applications

  • Exposure to test management tools

  • First experience with test automation concepts or scripting (not mandatory)

  • First experience with C# and/or TypeScript

  • Interest in risk management, insurance, reinsurance, or datadriven platforms
