Bratislava, SK
Senior AI Engineer (80-100%)
Shape production-grade AI solutions, lead impactful technical initiatives, and help advance AI engineering across Swiss Re.
About the Role
This isn't about building AI for the sake of it—you'll design and deliver solutions that create tangible, measurable value. From leveraging AI to understand complex documents to building intelligent assistants that make everyone's job easier, your work will directly influence how one of the world's leading reinsurance companies operates.
As a Senior AI Engineer, you will take ownership of complex technical challenges and contribute across the full product lifecycle—from identifying opportunities and refining requirements to designing, implementing, deploying, and continuously improving production solutions. You will help steer technical direction, promote engineering excellence, and support the adoption of AI products across the business.
What You Will Work On
Here's a taste of what you could be building and leading:
- Smart document processing engines that automatically extract, interpret, and validate key information—turning work that could take humans hours into reliable, scalable, and auditable automated processes
- AI assistants and agents that summarize complex content, assess compliance with company guidelines, support decision-making, and accelerate workflows across the business
- Next-generation evaluation and monitoring frameworks that measure AI product quality, reliability, safety, and business impact in real-world production environments
- Scalable data and AI pipelines capable of processing large volumes of complex, messy, and business-critical information
The best part? You won't just be coding in isolation. You'll work alongside experienced team members and business partners to understand the problems we're solving and why they matter.
About the Team
We're Swiss Re's biggest data science team – a friendly, ambitious group building AI solutions used across the entire company. Think of us as an internal AI startup: we work with teams all over the world to design and deliver tools that make their everyday work smarter and faster.
Our products are created right here in Bratislava but used globally. We care about solid data science skills, but we equally value engineering excellence, scalable infrastructure, and delivering reliable, production ready AI.
About You
You're an experienced AI engineer who is excited to apply technology to meaningful and complex business problems. You combine strong technical expertise with a pragmatic, impact-oriented mindset and understand that successful AI products require more than a working model.
You are comfortable taking ownership, navigating ambiguity, and proactively steering work towards scalable and sustainable solutions. You enjoy collaborating with both technical and non-technical stakeholders, explaining complex topics clearly, and helping teams understand the client value and bigger picture behind their work.
As a senior member of the team, you will help strengthen our technical capabilities, contribute to engineering and analytics governance, and promote a culture of collaboration, mutual support, and continuous learning. You will stay informed about relevant developments in the technology landscape and help the team evaluate and adopt approaches that can meaningfully advance Swiss Re's capabilities.
Most importantly, you're eager to learn and grow in a team that supports your development.
We are looking for candidates who meet these requirements:
- A degree in Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Software Engineering, or equivalent professional experience
- 3+ years of relevant professional experience in AI engineering, machine learning engineering, data science, software engineering, or a related field
- Strong proficiency in Python or a similar programming language and hands-on experience with modern AI and machine learning frameworks
- Practical experience with Generative AI and/or Natural Language Processing
- A proven track record of designing, building, and delivering AI or data-driven tools used in production, including testing, monitoring and continuous improvement
- Ability to communicate complex technical topics clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Strong ownership mindset and ability to proactively refine scope, deliverables, technical approaches, and effort estimates
These are additional nice to haves:
- Experience acting as a technical project lead or leading the delivery of significant projects or product features
- Experience providing technical guidance, mentoring colleagues, or coordinating work across multiple contributors
- Knowledge of cloud-native architectures, scalable infrastructure, and modern AI platforms
If your experience does not match every listed nice-to-have but you believe you can make a strong contribution in this role, we encourage you to get in contact with us.
