Senior Application Developer

About the Role 

As a software engineer, you will contribute to Swiss Re's core actuarial technology stack, building and enhancing libraries in Java, Python, and C that power actuarial modelling, Monte Carlo simulations, and risk analytics. Working in an agile environment, you will collaborate closely with actuaries, quantitative experts, and engineers to deliver scalable and high-performance solutions. 

 

Key Responsibilities 

  • Design and develop Swiss Re Property & Casualty's core actuarial libraries and costing platforms using Java, Python and C 

  • Drive the architecture and technical direction together with the team 

  • Collaborate closely with actuaries, quantitative experts and engineers to translate complex business and modelling requirements into scalable software solutions 

  • Champion engineering excellence through code reviews, testing strategies, CI/CD practices and software quality standards 

  • Contribute to the operational stability, performance, monitoring, and supportability of production services and libraries 

 

About the Team 

Our team is responsible for the tool landscape for pricing reinsurance business. We build solutions to create loss estimates for various lines of business and calculate key performance indicators for our deals, enabling Swiss Re to accurately manage risks across the global marketplace. Working with us means you'll be immersed in modern actuarial solutions with emphasis on cloud technologies and distributed systems, collaborating with talented colleagues from Swiss Re's international offices in a culture that values innovation and technical excellence.

We are looking for candidates who meet these requirements: 

  • Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or a related field 

  • 5+ years of software engineering experience, including a senior or technical leadership role 

  • Strong programming skills in Java and experience building complex, production-grade software systems and/or libraries 

  • Experience designing scalable, maintainable, and high-performance software architectures 

  • Solid understanding of software engineering best practices, including testing, code reviews, and CI/CD 

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills with a proactive, ownership-driven mindset 

 

These are additional nice to haves: 

  • Experience developing numerical, scientific, or quantitative software 

  • Knowledge of actuarial modelling, risk analytics, or Monte Carlo simulations 

  • Knowledge of C and Python 

  • Experience with cloud platforms, DevOps practices, or high-performance computing 

  • Exposure to insurance, reinsurance, financial services, or other quantitative domains 

 


For Slovakia the base salary range for this position is between EUR 3,800 and EUR 6,300 per month (for a full-time role). The specific salary offered considers:​

  • the requirements, scope, complexity and responsibilities of the role, ​
  • the applicant’s own profile including education/qualifications, expertise, specialisation, skills and experience.​

In addition to your base salary, Swiss Re offers an attractive performance-based variable compensation component, designed to recognise your achievements. Further you will enjoy a variety of global and location specific benefits.​

Eligibility may vary depending on the terms of Swiss Re policies and your employment contract.
