Senior Application Engineer

As a Senior Application Engineer in our Product Area, you will contribute to the development of a modern lakehouse architecture build on Azure Datalake using Python to implement business services. You will implement business functionality that enables our customers to run their accounting processes and generate data to meet their reporting needs. You will design, develop, automate, and support backend applications that combine data elements from multiple domains and systems. You will leverage innovative technologies and frameworks to enable scalable and efficient processing. You will collaborate with other engineers, analysts, product owners and stakeholders to deliver value-added solutions that meet the business needs and expectations.

 

We are living DevOps. We own the implementation of the business functionality and operate our workload in production. We are looking for an ambitious application engineer, who will help to build and deploy business services to production environments.

 

Key tasks:

  • Understand business requirements and convert them into technical specifications
  • Oversee the end-to-end application architecture
  • Drive the design and build of business services that create financial data by combining input from various sources
  • Hands-on coding in Python /PySpark
  • Take ownership for the implementation of functional and non-function requirements. Ensure a high level of test automation
  • Coach junior team members and peer reviews
  • Build up sustainable relationships with key business and IT stakeholders to become a trusted partner along with the product owner
  • Meet with business stakeholders, understand the requirements, and advise on efficient solutions
  • Ensure timely customer communication and coordination of follow-up activities
  • Apply and implement Agile Scrum and DevOps standard methodologies
  • Contribute to the operations during quarterly closing cycles

 

Your main responsibilities as a Senior Application Engineer are:

  •  
  • Collaborating with the Engineering Lead of the team to build a target architecture for the products in scope of the team
  • Design data transformation services and data flows and actively contribute hands-on to the coding
  • Collaborating with other engineers to ensure design decisions are aligned within the product area
  • Perform peer code reviews
  • Present and communicate ideas and design to various stakeholder for review and brainstorming
  • Ensure technical design and implementation are in line with the application architecture and meet quality requirements (e.g., performance, reliability, availability)
  • Implement software engineering practices to ensure the quality, performance, and maintainability of our applications
  • Mentoring and support professional skill development of junior colleagues
  • The position is part of the Cedent Enhancement team that is newly created in the Subledger Input Preparation Product Area. This area designs and runs business applications at the Finance IT Division of Swiss Re
  • The Product Owner is based in Bratislava and leads a team that develops and runs the next generation of finance business applications for Swiss Re
  • The team builds on a lakehouse architecture using Azure Databricks, Azure Data Factory and Azure Data Lake (Delta Lake) with Python being the main programming language and PySpark is used for large scale data engineering

 

About you

As a successful candidate for this role, you possess:

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in a relevant quantitative field, e.g. Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering or other equivalent
  • 8+ years of experience in designing and implementing reliable and scalable software through the full software development lifecycle using modern IDEs, code management and automation tools. Hands-on experience with test driven development
  • Strong understanding of software engineering techniques with modern programming languages and analytical frameworks. Proficient in Python, PySpark, SQL
  • Proficient in Spark based data lake & extended services like, Azure Databricks, Azure Data Factory, Azure Data Lake etc.
  • Expertise working with relational databases like Oracle/Postgres
  • Experience with Integration technologies like REST/SOAP APIs
  • Problem-solving skills and commitment to quality and timely delivery and a desire to continuously upskill & stay relevant with emerging technologies
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, including clear articulation of technical topics to a non-technical audience

 

For Slovakia the base salary range for this position is between [EUR 3,800] and [EUR 6,300] per month (for a full-time role). The specific salary offered considers:​

  • the requirements, scope, complexity and responsibilities of the role, ​
  • the applicant’s own profile including education/qualifications, expertise, specialisation, skills and experience.​
