Senior Enterprise Architect
Are you a bold architectural thinker who thrives at the intersection of cutting-edge AI and enterprise-scale transformation? Do you want to shape the future of AI architecture at one of the world's leading re/insurers? If so, this is your opportunity to make a lasting impact.
About the Role
Swiss Re is looking for a Senior Enterprise Architect to join our Group Enterprise Architecture function. In this high-impact individual contributor role, you will lead the design and governance of AI architectures across complex, cross-domain transformation initiatives — helping Swiss Reharness AI consistently, responsibly, and at scale. Whether your focus is on delivery (bringing AI solutions to life) or enablement & governance (setting the standards and guardrails that make AI trustworthy), you will be a trusted advisor to senior stakeholders and a driving force behind Swiss Re's AI ambitions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Shape AI strategy and target architectures — Lead engagement with business areas and Domains to define AI use cases, transformation roadmaps, blueprints, and transition plans that align with Swiss Re's strategic direction
- Design end-to-end AI solution architectures — Architect across business, application, data, model, integration, security, evaluation, observability, and production deployment dimensions
- Drive standardization and reuse — Champion simplification, reusable patterns, and long-term sustainability, including rigorous build-versus-buy and platform assessments across value, risk, scalability, and total cost of ownership
- Lead architecture delivery on complex programmes — Take architecture accountability from strategy and concept through implementation, production readiness, and operational ownership
- Ensure alignment with enterprise guardrails — Challenge design decisions to protect architectural integrity, measurable business value, and sustainable delivery outcomes
- Define and evolve AI standards and reference architectures — Own and develop principles, reusable patterns, methods, and pragmatic guardrails that enable teams to make consistent, safe, and scalable decisions
- Lead AI architecture governance — Shape Design Authority processes, review criteria, quality assurance, and compliance mechanisms, ensuring Responsible AI, privacy, security, and regulatory considerations are addressed
- Generate portfolio-level insight — Govern the AI inventory to identify patterns, gaps, reuse opportunities, and enterprise-wide architecture risks
- Collaborate and influence across domains — Work closely with Domain Architects, business stakeholders, technology teams, and risk partners to achieve enterprise alignment and resolve cross-domain dependencies
- Mentor and inspire — Contribute to the architecture community through knowledge sharing, coaching, and raising architecture quality across the organization
About the Team
The Group Enterprise Architecture team at Swiss Re sits at the heart of the company's technology and business transformation. The team is structured around two complementary capabilities: Delivery — focused on driving sustainable AI and technology value through complex programmes — and Enablement & Governance — focused on enabling AI consistently, safely, and at enterprise scale through standards, intelligence, and oversight. Together, these teams form one unified Enterprise Architecture capability, working hand-in-hand to ensure Swiss Re's architecture is coherent, future-ready, and aligned with its global ambitions. You will be part of a collaborative, high-caliber community of architects who are passionate about shaping the future of re/insurance through technology.
About You
You are a strategic thinker and a pragmatic doer — someone who can hold the long-term architectural vision while navigating the realities of complex, global organizations. You bring deep AI architecture expertise, a collaborative mindset, and communication skills to influence at the most senior levels. You are comfortable with ambiguity, energized by complexity, and committed to responsible, high-quality outcomes.
We are looking for candidates who meet these requirements:
- Previous experience in enterprise architecture, solution architecture, technology architecture, or transformation roles within complex, matrixed, or global organizations
- Hands-on experience designing and implementing production-grade AI solutions —including LLMs, RAG, embeddings/vector search, agents and tool use, model selection, prompt and model lifecycle management, and AI evaluation — beyond prompt-only approaches
- Proven expertise in MLOps/LLMOps, AI security and privacy patterns, observability, model monitoring, Responsible AI controls, and production readiness
- Demonstrated leadership in defining and governing target architectures for complex, cross-domain transformation initiatives, including experience with enterprise architecture frameworks, governance models, and design authority processes
- Strong stakeholder influencing skills — with a track record of advising senior business and technology leaders and shaping enterprise-level investment and transformation decisions
These are additional nice to haves:
- TOGAF or equivalent enterprise architecture certification
- Relevant certifications in AI, cloud, data, security, or architecture
- Experience using architecture inventories and repositories to generate portfolio insights, identify reuse opportunities, and support governance
- Ability to evaluate AI technology choices across quality, risk, scalability, latency, resilience, and cost — and communicate trade-offs clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences
- Experience mentoring architects and contributing to architecture community development
