Senior R Developer
About the role
The R Developer under the direction of the ESTP/Leap Product Owner will drive the development and maintenance of the Leap R modules as used by Swiss Re actuaries to perform Experience Studies.
Responsibilities of this position:
- Take requirements from the ESTP/Leap team, challenge, build and deliver the functionality in the Leap R modules.
- Perform impact analysis of changes and present design notes on how requirements will be implemented.
- Continue to develop and maintain extensive test suite
- Share knowledge with the ESTP/Leap community
- Liaise and support Leap R users in their development of Experience Studies. There is no expectation to run or perform experience studies.
- Provide and run demonstrations and code walk-throughs.
- Review pull-requests (PRs) of other team members, and provide constructive comments on how to improve their work
Required Skillsets
- Advance R programming skills (relevant experience over last 12-24 months) especially with packages like tidyverse, dplyr, data.table, dtplyr, Rcpp and shiny
- Built production-grade R Shiny applications (version controlled, with unit and functional tests, packaged format)
- Strong data science and analytical skills
- Ability to maintain existing solutions
- Ability to collaborate with others to find practical solutions
- Agile working experience
- Strong co-ordination and communication skills
- Desire to learn and improve continually (training may be provided)
- Experience using the Posit commercial products: Posit Workbench, Posit Connect and Posit Package Manager
Nice to have (at least some of the following)
- Performance optimisation of R code (dtplyr, data.table, Rcpp, cpp11)
- Experience in deploying R solutions using CI/CD pipelines and cloud providers (e.g. Azure DevOps)
- R package development and testing experience (like testthat, shinytest2)
- Provide technical guidance, help & leadership to other R developers within the squad
- Experience using and building solutions with different object-oriented systems in R: e.g. S3, S4, R6
- L&H insurance actuarial knowledge
For Slovakia the base salary range for this position is between EUR 2,700 and EUR 4,400 per month (for a full-time role). The specific salary offered considers:
