Claims and Underwriting Administrative Intern (12 months Internship)

About the Role
This is a fantastic opportunity to gain hands-on experience within a high-performing Life & Health Claims and Underwriting environment. As an intern, you will play a meaningful role in supporting our experts, contributing to the smooth running of day-to-day operations while developing a solid foundation in reinsurance. You will be exposed to a wide variety of tasks that will sharpen your analytical, administrative, and interpersonal skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Accurate data capturing and case induction to ensure records are complete and compliant with internal standards
- Liaising with clients and internal stakeholders to ensure processes are followed and to deliver excellent, responsive client service
- Underwriting and claims case allocation, tracking, and reporting to support efficient workflow management across the team
- Maintaining set standards and targets, contributing to a culture of quality and accountability
- Life Guide and Claims Guide role allocation and password management, ensuring smooth system access for team members
- SharePoint updates and UCR administration duties
- Assisting with the preparation of presentations, client resource materials, and handouts that support client engagement and internal communications
- Seminar and event coordination, helping to plan and execute team and client-facing events
- Supporting ad-hoc duties as assigned, demonstrating flexibility and a proactive approach to team needs
About the Team
The Claims and Underwriting team is a dedicated and collaborative group operating within the Life & Health (L&H) division. The team is responsible for managing and processing Life & Health claims and underwriting cases, ensuring that clients receive accurate, timely, and high-quality service.
About You

We are looking for candidates who meet these requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business Administration, or a related field
- Up to one year of working experience in a relevant field
- Ability to interpret, organise, and analyse data accurately, with a keen eye for detail and a structured approach to problem-solving
- Proficient in using Microsoft Office tools to produce professional documents, data tracking spreadsheets, and compelling presentations
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to engage confidently with diverse teams and clients
- A collaborative mindset with the ability to build positive working relationships across all levels of an organisation
These are additional nice to haves:
- Exposure to or interest in Life & Health insurance or reinsurance concepts
- Experience with event coordination or administrative support in a professional setting
This role is offered on the basis of an 12-month temporary contract, with an expected start date on 1st of September 2026. The gross monthly salary for this role is 9 000 ZAR full time.
Our interns have a hybrid work model where the expectation is that they will be in the office at least four days per week.
Preference will be given to Employment Equity candidates.
