About the Role
Join our Life & Health (L&H) Underwriting and Claims Proposition Team in Cape Town! You will play an important role in the shaping and optimising of insurance propositions across life, disability, critical illness, and health products. The role ensures alignment between underwriting and claims strategies to deliver sustainable risk management, strong customer outcomes, and competitive solutions. It operates at the intersection of risk selection, product design, claims experience, and commercial performance.
You will support us in providing high quality data analysis input to both clients and the cross-functional team within SwissRe. Through great teamwork and collaboration, you will gain a deep understanding of the L&H reinsurance market, you will learn about our various products, how we assess underwriting/claims and how we provide automation solutions for clients. We will also give you the opportunity to participate and contribute to projects as well as to the development of innovative, market leading reinsurance solutions that are relevant to the wider SwissRe Group.
Specific responsibilities of this role include but are not limited to the following:
- Support Underwriting/Claims specialists with data preparation and analysis, and work with specialists to bring SwissRe's solutions to the clients
- Support the day-to-day underwriting/claims work across different lines of business in the target markets
- Collect, analyse and present data collected for annual industry-wide surveys.
- Contribute to the design and implementation of internal process to produce efficiency on the department.
About the Team
The Underwriting and claims proposition team is tasked with delivering SwissRe's reinsurance solutions to clients; setting strategy and ensuring effective communications between the members of cross-functional teams to execute strategy. We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic team member to join the group.

You have:
• Successfully completed university degree (Bachelor, Master, or PhD degree)
• Strong interest in/motivation to work in Insurance
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex data and high attention to detail
• Proficiency in MS Office applications (Excel, PowerPoint, Word)
It will be also nice to have:
• Re/insurance experiences gained through vacation work or internships is an advantage
• Proficiency in use of data analytics tools and/or programming languages is an advantage
