About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and intellectually curious actuary to join the Life & Health Middle East & Africa (MEA) Pricing team based in Cape Town, forming part of the UKI & MEA Market Unit.

As part of Swiss Re's regional pricing team, you will collaborate with clients and colleagues across Africa, the Middle East and our global network of experts to solve complex business challenges and create sustainable value.

The role combines technical pricing expertise with meaningful client engagement. You will work directly with insurers to understand their strategic objectives, develop tailored reinsurance solutions, and support key business decisions. This is an ideal opportunity for an actuary who enjoys both analytical problem-solving and building strong professional relationships.

Key Responsibilities

Your responsibilities will vary depending on experience and business needs, but may include:

• Collaborating with clients and cross-functional teams on pricing and product development initiatives across individual and group life portfolios.
• Leading or supporting the development, review and documentation of reinsurance pricing bases and terms for both new and established products.
• Perform experience investigations to assess emerging mortality, morbidity, lapse and claims trends.
• Explore and apply advanced analytical methods, including AI-enabled tools, predictive modelling and automation, to improve pricing, portfolio management and client solutions.
• Monitoring the performance of our in-force reinsurance portfolio, partnering with reporting and experience studies teams to assess emerging trends and support portfolio management actions.
• Contributing to the development of innovative pricing methodologies, tools and analytical capabilities.
• Supporting business development activities and engaging directly with clients throughout the pricing and negotiation process.
• Sharing knowledge, providing technical guidance and depending on experience, leading projects and mentoring colleagues.
• Representing Swiss Re externally through client interactions, industry forums, conferences and thought leadership initiatives.

About You

You are a collaborative and commercially minded actuary who enjoys tackling complex problems and transforming analysis into actionable business insights.

We're particularly interested in the following candidates:

• Nearly or newly qualified actuaries (FASSA or equivalent).
• Approximately 3 to 7 years of actuarial experience.
• Experience in pricing, product development, valuation, experience investigations, or reinsurance.
• Familiarity with the South African and/or broader Middle East & Africa insurance markets being advantageous.
• Strong analytical and technical skills, including experience with actuarial modelling and statistical techniques. Experience with AI-enabled tools, R, GLMs or other programming languages would be beneficial.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to diverse audiences.
• Highly motivated with the ability to produce accurate, high-quality work, under pressure, managing multiple priorities. 
• An absolute team player, who is equally comfortable independently owning results and driving projects to execution.

Compensation & Work Model

For South Africa, the base salary range for this position is between R830,000 and R1,380,000 for a full-time role.

• the applicant's own profile including education/qualifications, expertise, specialisation, skills and experience

In addition to your base salary, Swiss Re offers an attractive performance-based variable compensation component, designed to recognise your achievements. Further you will enjoy a variety of global and location specific benefits.

Eligibility may vary depending on the terms of Swiss Re policies and your employment contract.

Our company has a hybrid work model where the expectation is that you will be in the office at least three days per week.
