Pricing Actuary/Actuarial Specialist
About the Role
We are offering an exciting opportunity for an intellectually curious, highly motivated and passionate actuary in our Swiss Re Middle East and Africa Pricing team in Cape Town. You will play an important role in providing high quality actuarial support to help grow the Medical Insurance business in the region. As a member of the Middle East and Africa Pricing team, you will contribute to the development of innovative, market leading health reinsurance solutions and positively impact critical business and societal challenges.
Specific responsibilities of this role include but are not limited to the following:
Pricing and steering of existing and new business
• Perform day-to-day pricing, monitoring and benefit design for the relevant target markets.
• Support clients with the benefit design and pricing of their products.
• Assume a proactive approach and critical reviews of pricing, benefit design and in steering of existing and new business.
• Participate in client meetings, to understand client's needs, share our view of results and jointly steer the business together with our client partners.
• Assist in identifying and driving risk management interventions that will help our clients to limit the increase in cost of healthcare expenditure.
• Reviewing and approving, within given authority, group quotes our clients refer to us.
Control and Monitoring process
• Assist with the production of monitoring reports for both internal and external use, to ensure that the performance of our different clients is tracked regularly.
• Analysing reports and noting emerging trends and problems, as well as giving inputs on their successful resolution.
About You
An ideal candidate would be a qualified (or nearly qualified) actuary that has excellent analytical, problem solving and independent decision-making abilities with strong customer focus and negotiation skills. You possess excellent inter-personal, communication and presentations skills and are able to work well within technical and non-technical teams.
We would like you to have:
• A minimum of 3 years' experience in a healthcare actuarial role
• Experience in medical insurance, with a strong understanding of pricing, monitoring and benefit design features
• Excellent understanding of the South African healthcare and/or the broader African medical insurance markets, competitors, market trends and dynamics
• Good working experience with Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint
• Good working experience with SQL-based programs
It would be nice for you to have:
• Experience in developing, emerging medical insurance markets in Africa
• Skills in experience studies and costing bases across Africa
• Previous exposure to working in a complex environment
• Experience with SAS and R

Compensation & Work Model
For South Africa, the base salary range for this position is between R830,000 and R1,380,000 for a full-time role.

- the applicant's own profile including education/qualifications, expertise, specialisation, skills and experience
In addition to your base salary, Swiss Re offers an attractive performance-based variable compensation component, designed to recognise your achievements. Further you will enjoy a variety of global and location specific benefits.
Eligibility may vary depending on the terms of Swiss Re policies and your employment contract.
Our company has a hybrid work model where the expectation is that you will be in the office at least three days per week.
