To manage only those claims where we add value, and to provide client value added risk management solutions in a timely and bespoke manner.

 

General job outline:

The Claims Specialist is responsible for maintaining Swiss Re’s risk profitability through sound claims management practices and provision of service excellence to our clients and their customers.

 

About the Role

Contribute to the achievement of the business objectives of the Claims Team through:

Specific to role:

  • Providing technically correct claims management decisions whilst applying the appropriate balance of service and risk management
  • Actively and appropriately manage a portfolio of new and existing claims in accordance with Swiss Re’s claims philosophy and any philosophy agreed with the client, policy guidelines and agreed service standards.
  • Providing excellent customer service to clients and claimants demonstrating strong verbal (using telephone) and written communication skills
  • Proactively using internal resources through appropriate referrals to relevant departments e.g Clinical team, CMO’s, Underwriting, Actuarial and Legal department
  • Monitoring the claims portfolio on a monthly basis ensuring that all claims are reviewed regularly and outstanding requirements followed up in accordance with Swiss Re’s review procedure

 

Generic accountabilities in supporting the business in the provision of claims service and claims information:

  • Provide quality claims input to the business as required eg changes to philosophy and best practice standards, involvement in projects, product and pricing etc
  • Support the business in service to clients and promote SRLH technical expertise eg participation in claim seminars, training and client audits
  • Contribute required claims information for business reporting purposes
  • Contribute to business projects and initiatives ensuring relevant claims issues are considered in broader based company activities
  • Develop processes/systems to ensure that knowledge and best practice standards are stored and easily accessible
  • Proactive in sharing knowledge and experience with team members
  • Comply with risk management guidelines and practices

 

About You

  • At least 3-5 years experience in an income protection claims assessment role, both Individual and Group experience preferable but either is acceptable
  • Medical, occupation, avocation and financial technical knowledge relevant to claims assessment highly desirable
  • Full understanding of relevant best practice issues and initiatives which impact on bottom line results
  • Analytical
  • Excellent interpersonal skills including strong negotiation and influencing skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Drive for information
  • Solution orientated
  • A levels/ACII/DLDC (or claims equivalent) desirable
  • Awareness of Swiss Re structure
  • Solid understanding and application of all ABI guidelines and statements of best practice
  • Solid understanding of the UK regulatory environment to include but not limited to: FSA and FOS

  • Direct Claims Manager

 

Works within:

  • Life and Health Business Management

 

Liaises with:

  • UK Regional Business Unit including Underwriting and Pricing
  • Head of UK Claims and Head of EMEA BM
  • External Clients and Professional / Industry Bodies
