About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced actuary to join the project team to implement ASU 2018-12 "Targeted improvements to the accounting for long duration contracts" for L&H Reinsurance globally. The insurance industry views this to be the largest change to US GAAP accounting in the last few decades.

In this role you will be leading the design and build of the global US GAAP reserving engine to produce the required balance sheet and quantitative disclosure items under the new accounting standard.

As well as delivery of the global US GAAP reserving engine, you will support actuarial system and process design decisions to ensure the new engine integrates seamlessly into the wider system landscape and process.


Key Business Responsibilities

  • Design interfaces with upstream and downstream systems (ADAM, LHSL)
  • Design/review system specifications for the US GAAP reserving engine
  • Ensure system functionality is appropriately tested after each development cycle
  • Manage day-to-day system development tasks and resources
  • Provide inputs to process and accounting policy choice topics by highlighting system implications
  • Work closely with Lead US GAAP BM Systems to ensure the system solution meets business process requirements and integrates seamlessly into the wider system landscape
  • Support US GAAP earnings analysis design
  • Support preparation of project communication materials and training programmes
  • Work with regional teams to solve specific challenges
  • Support the wider needs of the US GAAP project as required

 Primary role is to support the Group Finance project on US GAAP long duration contract accounting changes

About You

  • Recent FSA (or equivalent)
  • Strong background in existing end-to-end L&H financial reporting systems
  • Several years L&H actuarial valuation experience
  • Good understanding of US GAAP valuation and reserving for L&H business
  • Good understanding of at least one economic valuation framework for L&H business (e.g. EVM, Solvency II, IFRS, new US GAAP)
  • Ability to translate concepts into system functionalities and processes
  • Ability to think about problems in a holistic manner and propose solutions
  • Ability to prioritize and manage deliverable timelines and resources
  • Experience in developing actuarial models and working with large actuarial databases. Knowledge of RAFM and Prophet is an asset.
  • Experience in working with cross-functional and cross-organizational teams
  • Good communication skills in English
