About the Role
As a Life Underwriting Solution Designer, you'll be at the forefront of transforming how life insurance underwriting works — blending deep industry knowledge with cutting-edge automation and third-party data innovation. This is a client-facing, high-impact role where your ideas don't just sit in a deck — they come to life in real tools that shape the future of underwriting. Based in Fort Wayne, IN, you'll collaborate with carriers, cross-functional teams, and industry leaders to design smarter, faster, and more accurate underwriting workflows.
Key Responsibilities
- Partner directly with clients to deeply understand their underwriting philosophies and translate them into automated decisioning tools and innovative solutions
- Design and implement end-to-end underwriting workflows, driving requirements gathering, specification documentation, and solution architecture
- Lead group discussions with confidence and balance — bringing persuasion and open-mindedness to guide stakeholders toward the most effective path forward
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure all solutions align with business objectives and compliance standards
- Expand beyond traditional automated decisioning — exploring and integrating third-party data use cases and underwriting innovations
- Monitor and evaluate the performance and effectiveness of implemented changes, iterating for continuous improvement
- Stay ahead of industry trends, bringing fresh perspectives on best practices in life underwriting, digital health data, and automation

You communicate complex ideas with clarity, and you know how to bring others along on the journey.
We are looking for candidates who meet these requirements:
- 2+ years of Life Underwriting experience, with a solid understanding of the application and policy life cycle
- Proven experience working with automated life insurance underwriting systems and digital health data
- Demonstrated ability to articulate the role of data in automation, translating technical concepts for diverse audiences
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a track record of designing and implementing process improvements
- Proficiency in process mapping and documentation tools, with experience in requirements gathering and specification writing

- Knowledge of industry regulations and compliance standards in life insurance
- College degree in Business, Finance, or a related field
- Demonstrated thought leadership with internal and external stakeholders
- Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously in a deadline-driven environment

he estimated base salary range for this position for Armonk, NY is between $161,000 to $269,000 and for Fort Wayne, IN and Kansas City, MO, the range is between $150,000 to $250,000. The specific salary offered for this, or any given role will take into account a number of factors including but not limited to job location, scope of role, qualifications, complexity/specialization/scarcity of talent, experience, education, and employer budget. At Swiss Re, we take a "total compensation approach" when making compensation decisions. This means that we consider all components of compensation in their totality (such as base pay, short-and long-term incentives, and benefits offered), in setting individual compensation.
Our company has a hybrid work model where the expectation is that you will be in the office at least three days per week; however, for an exceptional candidate, the role may be performed remotely within the USA.
