Claims Engineering Graduate (Hybrid; m/f/x/d)
Launch your engineering career where technical expertise meets real-world impact!
We're looking for technically-minded, curious graduates with an engineering background who want to apply their skills in a dynamic, intellectually stimulating environment. If you hold a Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in engineering or a related technical discipline and have up to three years of professional experience, apply to our 18-month Graduate Programme starting 1 September 2026.
You'll gain hands-on experience in the fast-paced world of reinsurance, rotate into a different team, and receive tailored technical training to sharpen your expertise. This is your chance to put your engineering knowledge to work — analysing complex losses, solving real technical problems, and helping protect societies from the world's most challenging risks.
About the Role
As a Claims Engineering Graduate, you'll be at the technical heart of Property and Engineering claims underwritten in the DACH market (Germany, Austria, and Switzerland). You'll apply your engineering knowledge to investigate, analyse, and resolve complex industrial and construction losses — working alongside seasoned claims professionals to deliver proactive, fair, and technically rigorous claims handling in line with our Corporate Solutions Claims Commitment.
This is not a desk-bound administrative role — it's a position where your technical understanding of machinery, construction, and engineering systems will directly influence outcomes for clients and brokers across the globe.
Key Responsibilities:
-
Technically assess insurance claims of varying complexity — from initial notification through to final settlement — applying engineering principles to evaluate cause, extent, and value of losses
-
Analyse policy coverage against technical facts, investigate root causes of failures or damage, and develop well-reasoned resolution plans grounded in engineering logic
-
Collaborate with external technical experts (loss adjusters, engineers, surveyors) to manage investigations efficiently and control indemnity costs
-
Leverage your engineering knowledge to evaluate Property, Engineering, and Construction losses across industrial, mechanical, electrical, and civil disciplines
-
Build cross-functional expertise by sharing technical insights with underwriting, sales, and risk engineering teams to support better risk selection and portfolio management
-
Coordinate claims across our global network, gaining international exposure to complex, large-scale industrial and infrastructure losses
-
Develop technical documentation skills — preparing clear, structured claim reports and correspondence for clients, brokers, and internal stakeholders
About the Team
The DACH Property, Engineering and Construction claims team is based across Frankfurt, Hamburg, Munich, and Zürich, comprising 10 claims professionals with diverse technical and insurance backgrounds. The team handles losses across major lines of business — including industrial property, machinery breakdown, construction all risks, and erection all risks — with an unwavering commitment to exemplary claims service that differentiates.
Swiss Re Corporate Solutions in the market. The team believes that outstanding, technically credible claims handling — delivered through the Corporate Solutions Claims Commitment — is a key reason customers choose Swiss Re Corporate Solutions for their insurance needs. You'll be joining a team that values technical rigour, intellectual curiosity, and collaborative problem-solving.
About You
You are a technically sharp, open-minded, and enthusiastic team player with an engineering foundation who thrives on solving complex problems. You bring intellectual curiosity and a structured, analytical mindset to every challenge. You're comfortable engaging in technically demanding conversations, confident working with clients and brokers, and eager to grow your expertise at the intersection of engineering and insurance.
We are looking for candidates who meet these requirements:
-
Engineering or technical degree (Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD) in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Civil/Structural Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a closely related technical discipline — with up to 3 years of professional experience
-
Strong analytical and technical problem-solving skills — ability to interpret complex technical data, engineering reports, and loss scenarios to draw well-reasoned conclusions
-
Excellent communication skills — confidence to translate technical findings into clear, structured written and verbal communication for clients, brokers, and senior colleagues
-
Full professional proficiency in both German and English — essential for working across the DACH market and our international network
-
Ability to work independently and collaboratively — managing your own workload while contributing constructively to a close-knit, high-performing team
These are additional nice-to-haves:
-
Specialisation or coursework in mechanical, electrical, civil, or construction engineering with practical exposure to industrial systems or infrastructure
-
Previous internship or work experience in insurance, claims, risk engineering, or financial services
-
Familiarity with engineering failure analysis, root cause investigation, or technical loss assessment methodologies Basic understanding of insurance coverage principles, loss evaluation, and claim valuation in Property or Engineering lines
-
Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and comfort working with technical data and documentation
-
High degree of initiative, accountability, and fast learning ability — you take ownership and don't wait to be told what to do
