About the Role
As a L&H Underwriter, you'll be at the forefront of risk assessment and client relationship management in the Life & Health sector. You'll leverage your expertise to provide premium underwriting services while contributing to our strategic objectives in the Hong Kong and Taiwan markets.
Key Responsibilities
- Core Underwriting services: Evaluate data, medical, and financial documents to provide accurate and competitive life risk selection
Policy Development: Develop and implement company underwriting policies and principles ensuring risks are assumed on a sound and profitable basis - Cross Functional Team Collaboration: Provide underwriting expertise in cross functional teams or organization-wide activities and projects
- Client Partnership: Adopt a partnership approach when conducting underwriting and audits with clients to build strong relationships
- Market Expertise: Maintain knowledge of insurance products, industry changes, regulatory developments, and risk selection principles
- Education & Development: Support and conduct continuing underwriting education through active participation in training programs, forums, and webinars
- Industry Presence: Enhance our market presence through presentations, participation in industry committees, and sharing company initiatives. Participate in client meetings, industry conferences, and office visits as needed
- Quality Assurance: Support internal governance, peer review processes, and quality assurance initiatives
- Project Contribution: Offer underwriting expertise to various projects as required
About the Team
You'll join Swiss Re's dynamic Life & Health Hong Kong & Taiwan team in Asia, a team dedicated to providing innovative reinsurance solutions to clients. Working closely with underwriting, actuarial, claims, and other solutions teams, you'll be part of a collaborative environment that values expertise, client focus, and market leadership. The team combines deep technical knowledge with commercial acumen to deliver sustainable growth while maintaining Swiss Re's position as a market leader in the region.
About You
You're a seasoned underwriting professional who thrives in a collaborative environment. Your technical expertise is matched by your ability to build meaningful client relationships. You're detail-oriented yet strategic, able to balance risk assessment with business development. Your communication skills allow you to convey complex concepts clearly to diverse audiences, and you're passionate about contributing to the growth of our business in Asia.
We are looking for candidates who meet these requirements:
- Minimum 7 years' relevant Life & Health insurance or reinsurance underwriting experience, preferably with regional/international exposure
- University degree or similar qualification
- Broad range of products experience with authorities reflecting this expertise
- Excellent command of English; Cantonese language skills required, Mandarin beneficial
- Proven ability to work effectively as part of a high-performance team
These are additional nice to haves:
- Experience working in multiple Asian markets
- Industry certifications related to underwriting or insurance
- Experience with digital underwriting tools and technologies
- Project management experience
- Knowledge of emerging trends in Life & Health insurance
