Corporate Actuary

Position summary:

This position is responsible for leading a newly created small actuarial team within the broader Asia reserving team to support in the delivery of IFRS17 results and reporting for both group and local branches, support the transition of branches into the IFRS17 reporting environment as required, support the audit of IFRS17 results in Asia.  The role will work closely with the local reserving actuaries as well as colleagues from global and group actuarial reserving and local and group finance.

 

Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Support IFRS17 closing for all branches under local standards including supporting the local appointed actuary where their sign-off is formally required.
  • Provide support for each branch, including providing written reports, for IFRS17 disclosures of an actuarial nature.
  • Support the quarterly review of IFRS17 results at both branch and regional level.
  • Support the recommendations to appropriate reserve committees and branch management for IFRS17 matters
  • Assist branches transition to the IFRS17 reporting environment in the future as necessary.
  • Work closely with our centralized IFRS17 P&C actuarial unit to develop and improve existing processes, systems and governance related to IFRS17.
  • Work with regulators and internal/external auditors on routine and special matters for IFRS17
  • Prepare IFRS17 training materials for P&C actuarial colleagues in Asia.
  • Work on other projects of the P&C Asia Actuarial team as assigned.

 

Position Requirements:

  • Very good understanding of IFRS17
  • Experience in the implementation of IFRS17 for a P&C company (preferably in Asia)
  • At least 8+ years experience in a Property & Casualty insurance/reinsurance
  • University degree in actuarial science or related field (mathematics or finance)
  • Actuarial valuation and reporting experience
  • Very good understanding of actuarial, accounting, information systems and investments.
  • Independent self-starter
  • Strong practical capabilities in Microsoft Office and other business software applications.  Data analytics programming skills in R an advantage.
  • Accomplished interpersonal and communication skills, demonstrates a clear and articulate standard of written and verbal communication in a complex environment
  • Proactive in seeking out and providing information
  • Actively looks to add value and take on additional responsibility
  • Ability to work under pressure and prioritize tasks accordingly
  • Asian language skills considered an advantage
