We are looking for an ambitious individual who has the skills, drive and gravitas to grow a profitable Property & Casualty book and develop his/her career in Swiss Re as one of the world's global insurance/reinsurance leaders.


The position entails a dual role in the following:
•    Property & Casualty Facultative business & portfolio management (Head of P&C Fac)
•    Casualty Facultative Underwriting (Senior Underwriter, Casualty Fac)
•    Territorial remit: HK, Macau, Taiwan 

 

About the Role

 

Key accountabilities:
•    Lead and manage the P&C Fac business to drive profitable growth and achieve the Fac Ambition targets and strategic goals, in accordance with Asia/HK strategies, plans, underwriting guidelines & framework and corporate governance
•    Protect and grow SR bottom line and margin; manage the book, and accountable for underwriting performance and portfolio management of the P&C Fac book
•    Lead the HK P&C Fac team and ensure right expertise and talent is in place to deliver our strategy and initiatives
•    Drive business origination, and enhance servicing and relationship building with clients and brokers
•    Assume responsibility of hands-on Casualty Fac underwriting and building a profitable book
•    Collaborate with Client Management, Treaty, Solutions and Cross-Functional Teams to promote Swiss Re proposition and value-add service

 

Key Responsibilities

 

Market Management & External Servicing

•    Enhance Swiss Re 's market leading position, franchise and presence in our target markets 
•    Build partnership approach and improve ease of doing business with clients & brokers
•    Develop and implement a robust Go-To-Market strategy to articulate SR P&C Fac propositions, risk appetites and market message, and ensure a consistent and targeted marketing approach in alignment with overall Underwriting / Client strategy
•    Identify and convert opportunities into robust pipelines and business closing through high quality client and broker interactions, relationship building and engagement
•    Expand and deepen penetration of client base of SwiftRe (SR's SME e-channel portal), drive profitable growth, enhance client / broker's experience in using SwiftRe, whilst improving underwriting data transparency, control & governance
•    Be the first port of call for Fac business, and provide high quality, timely and appropriate service to clients and brokers whilst complying with underwriting authority and guidelines
•    Present at industry or client specific seminars and workshops and contribute to SR reputation, profile and brand franchise of being a reinsurance subject matter expert


Underwriting & Portfolio Management
  

Property / Casualty lines:


•    Develop and implement a robust P&C Fac underwriting strategy and plan in alignment with Asia Fac / Global Product strategies  
•    Ensure profitable P&C Facultative business is developed in accordance with the planned portfolio targets and within stated underwriting guidelines & other governance rules through a high standard of underwriting including assessing exposures, developing and adapting coverage and using appropriate underwriting tools and pricing methodologies
•    Originate business, ensure solid new & renewal business pipelines, and maximize SR commercial position, pricing & terms adequacy and quality of deals
•    Work closely with the P&C Reinsurance Product Hub to monitor portfolio metrics and observe external risk landscape & trends and put in actions to steer portfolios to reach out profit target
  

Casualty lines:


•    Mitigate volatility, manage line size and develop alternative approaches that allows us to write business profitably and meet client needs
•    Ensure diligent use of pricing / modelling tools and robust reflection of pricing to exposure and risk quality, and proactively improve data transparency and accuracy
•    Escalate cases exceeding his/her authority in accordance with authorities and responsibilities and keep an organized filing and ensure the integrity of information on the relevant systems
•    Contribute to the assessment, development and implementation of pricing tools and underwriting processes
•    Provide UW support to other territories across the Asia Region, and participate in underwriting peer reviews; implements audit recommendations


Internal Collaboration & Service
•    Collaborate with Client Markets and be an active contributor to the market & client Cross-Functional Team to promote SR's suite of services and meet client business needs
•    Share market / competitors / underwriting insights with Treaty Underwriters and Client managers; support Treaty special acceptances, if required
•    Liaise with the Claims Team to stay abreast of claims trends and issues of the market / client companies and their profitability
•    Proactively streamline underwriting processes and workflows in collaboration with Business Services and Business Management
•    Liaise with FP&A in planning and reporting
•    Provide trainings to clients, brokers, and internal functions


Planning / Operational Efficiency & Effectiveness / Risk Management
•    Develop and monitor budgets and business plans to ensure timely steering and reporting
•    Stay within direct costs as outlined in budget plan
•    Improve efficiency & productivity 
•    Proactively manage operational risks and ensure Operational Risk Management (ORM) compliance and contribute to the ORM process and internal risk reviews
•    Support underwriting audits and peer reviews of other units


Training and Development
•    Recruit, train, develop and retain underwriting talent (local and off-shore)
•    Mentor and assist more junior members of the team in HK/Asia as needed and pass on your knowledge, experience and relationship 
•    Build succession pipelines and ensure robust development plans are in place for underwriters

 

Professional Development
•    Technical knowledge - acquire and maintain an appropriate level of technical expertise and underwriting authority in order to underwrite and manage facultative business profitably and be able to provide training to other underwriters
•    Market Knowledge - maintain sufficient level knowledge of the insurance and reinsurance industry, market / product trends and legal and economic and social environment

About You

 

Business / Technical skills and experience:
•    Strong leadership qualities and proven track record in profitable growth of P&C business
•    Solid P&C underwriting / business background in primary / reinsurance business with at least 12 years of relevant experience
•    Deep understanding of primary / reinsurance market and extensive broker or client network in Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macau; experience in China / Asia an added advantage
•    Expertise in General  TP Liability, CGL/Products liability, Product Recall, . Professional Indemnity, and Project PI. Cyber, D&O, Motor, A&H and Facility underwriting knowledge an added advantage
•    Portfolio management and steering capability and experience
•    Experience in leading / working with multi-national teams, mentoring staff of various experience levels and attracting talent
•    Agility to work with new systems, tools & processes and underwriting approaches, important factors working in SR
•    Willing to travel as required
•    University or equivalent professional degree
•    Languages: English and Mandarin; Cantonese added advantage
