About the Role

  • You will support Chief Risk Officer Reinsurance Asia & Head Risk Management Reinsurance Life & Health in executing their mandates. 
  • You will lead risk assessment and analysis of Life & Health risks in the Reinsurance Asia business, ensuring material risks are identified, understood, monitored and mitigated appropriately. 
  • Your risk advice to the Life & Health community will promote a risk aware culture.  You will review new product and transaction proposals to support Risk Management's signature, with a particular focus on large and structured transactions. You will provide expert opinion on business proposals containing Life & Health risk, ensure that key risks are identified and reflected in the structure and costing of deals, and ensure that reasonable risk mitigations are implemented.
  • You will lead the Risk Management review of Life & Health Terms of Trade for Asia by providing expert review and oversight in relation to material costing assumptions and methodology.  You will also support assurance activities through participation in Insurance Risk Reviews and reviews of costing models.
  • You will lead the Risk Management review of Asia Life & Health Business Plan and major new L&H business initiatives. 
  • You will contribute to the maintenance of a comprehensive risk management framework for Asia L&H business, across all risk categories. This will include identifying risks the Asia L&H business is exposed to, proposing appropriate limits, monitoring risk exposure developments, ensuring regular reporting of the risk landscape and undertaking projects to understand and investigate key risk issues and topics.
  • You will provide recommendations to Chief Risk Officer Reinsurance Asia & Head Risk Management Reinsurance Life & Health and relevant decision bodies including Life & Health Steering Committee and Asia Life Management Committee. You will lead preparation of all risk updates and reports on the Life & Health Asia business to various governance and management committees, including but not limited to the Swiss Re Asia Limited Board Finance and Risk Committee and Asia Finance Investment and Risk Committee.
  • As the Risk Business Partner to Life & Health Asia, you will monitor the operational risks inherent with the business, acting as the risk controller, and provide independent challenge and guidance. You will also approve risk mitigation actions to risk issues proposed by the business team.  
  • You will also support and lead Risk Management Life & Health projects or initiatives with a global scope.
  • In your role you will be required to travel occasionally, and also attend global meetings that span multiple time zones.


About the Team

  • You will be part of the Asia Risk Management Reinsurance Team.  In order to conduct your role successfully you will foster strong relationships with Client Management, Business Management and Products counterparts within the Asia Life & Health community.
  • You will lead a small team in Asia and collaborate with the wider Risk Management community to deliver comprehensive risk management services to the Life & Health Asia business.


About You

  • Ideally, you are a qualified Actuary with at least 10 years of relevant life (re)insurance industry experience, with experience working in various capacities and with multiple product offerings. Other quantitative backgrounds with suitable business experience will also be considered.
  • Prior experience with large and structured transactions and advanced reinsurance concepts is highly desirable.
  • You have excellent commercial awareness. 
  • You have superior analytic and modeling abilities and a keen appreciation of sound risk management and actuarial techniques.  
  • You apply your experience and judgement with minimal supervision or direction and have the confidence and foresight to use your own initiative.
  • You are a strong communicator with great people skills. You are organised, a motivated team player able to collaborate effectively with colleagues globally and are comfortable in a multi-cultural environment.  You have the ability to manage a team with senior members.
  • You are an independent thinker – willing to challenge constructively – proactive, curious and keen to explore and learn.
  • You are comfortable working and communicating effectively with management and senior leadership.
  • Your English is excellent; other languages, in particular Asian languages are a plus.
