Building on its market leading position in reinsurance, Swiss Re is now looking to build a white labelled primary insurance proposition / business with insurance products sold under the brands of existing and new distribution partners with Swiss Re carrying the risk. Execution of this strategy is via a B2B2C model across a variety of primary platforms.

 

About the Role:

Head Strategy & Development is an instrumental role in building the Life Capital business in APAC.  As a key and senior member of the regional team, the Head Strategy & Development would be expected to lead the development of our regional long-term strategic plans and objectives by identifying issues and opportunities that could impact our business growth and profitability.  Managing stakeholders across the organization to effectively obtain buy-in and funding for our strategic plans.

 

The duties include competitor benchmarking, marketing program effectiveness, industry intelligence, partnership/consumer knowledge, and development of strategic initiatives.  You would be expected to own high-priority strategic initiatives for the region, working directly with the business leadership, executives and stakeholders. In addition, we see this role as a trusted advisor to the LC APAC Chief Executive Officer, creating a strong link between the CEO office and our business teams, managing the relationship between the APAC CEO and the Life Capital Hub, and holding responsibility for submissions to Executive Committee and Board meetings.

 

Task details:

•    Collaboration and Advisory - Thought partner and challenger on strategic direction and initiatives for the CEO and Executive Team. The Head Strategy & Development is a highly collaborative role and, in this capacity, must establish trusting relationships with the key internal leaders to ensure there is a free flow of ideas and information across the business, leading to suitable strategy formulation and overall business performance enhancement. 
•    Strategy Definition - Shape and implement the strategy by working closely with key stakeholders within Life Capital Asia Pacific (e.g. country specific heads, marketing, finance, operations, pricing, compliance legal) and through the development of work plans, gathering and generation of relevant data, driving analyses, and the development of actionable recommendations. Identify and develop strategic opportunities with a view to diversify our base as well as working with the CMO to review feasibility of new markets and their potential.
•    Strategic Planning – Evaluate and recommend business frameworks, practices and measures to be applied across the business through the annual planning process.  Working with various internal and external key stakeholders to create visually and verbally engaging and concise presentations and reports.
•    Strategic Risk Management - Work with all business executives in order to evaluate overall performance against targets and make necessary adjustments.  Expect to help establish KPIs that the business will measure performances against.  Drive awareness and insights of the market trends to ascertain risks and opportunities. 

 

About the Team:

Life Capital Asia Pacific is a newly established Swiss Re business unit created with the specific objective of building large scale B2B2C revenue streams from across the region, with a focus on High Growth Markets and scalable opportunities. The business model will revolve around the creation of in country operations, appropriate to the regulatory and market environments in place. These operations will be tasked with delivering the relevant Life Capital proposition, with a small regional team providing strategic, operational, financial, risk and governance support.  Life Capital will put the consumers' needs at the centre of what we do, aim to become a digital/direct champion and build expertise in data driven acquisition and management. We will use the Swiss Re network to access state of the art technologies and capabilities, combine it with local expertise and an innovative mind-set, constantly challenging current ways of offering insurance. Our aim is to drive the digital partnerships across the insurance value chain, combining insurance know-how and e-commerce competencies, with the dynamic spirit of a start-up. The team will evolve over the course of the next two years as new opportunities arise and the need for new knowledge becomes clear. The job holder will be expected to demonstrate flexibility in thought and action, moving swiftly to take advantage of opportunities, to test ideas and theories and bring innovation to the table. About You: 
•    Primary insurance business acumen – within a global organization is a plus; start-up experience in the insurance/insurtech space is also a plus
•    Ability to think strategically, anticipate future consequences and trends, and incorporate them concisely into a business plan
•    Strong business analytical and project management skills, able to manage multiple projects, manage senior stakeholders, reach decisions among different senior parties
•    Proven team player with drive and initiative to push action
•    Resourceful, ability to work independently and make decisions/priorities in the face of complexity, conflicting pressures and ambiguous circumstances
•    Proven track record of building productive and collaborative working relationships with senior internal and external stakeholders
•    Excellent communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills with superb English both written and verbal
•    Good financial acumen and understanding of financial metrics
