Key Account Manager Asia

This is a defining leadership opportunity for a senior commercial professional ready to shape the future of Life & Health Reinsurance in Asia — bringing strategic vision, financial acumen, and the drive to deliver growth with discipline and impact.

At Swiss Re, we are looking for an exceptional individual who brings the strategic vision to lead complex client portfolios, the financial acumen to engage at the highest levels of client organisations, and the commercial drive to originate and deliver growth with discipline and impact.

About the Role

This is a senior commercial leadership opportunity at the centre of Swiss Re’s Life & Health Reinsurance business in Asia. As Key Account Manager, you will own a portfolio of strategically important client relationships and be accountable for their long-term value, resilience and profitable growth. You will act as the voice of the client, orchestrate Swiss Re’s capabilities across functions and markets, and translate deep client insight into differentiated propositions and disciplined execution.

The role combines strategic account leadership, origination and active in-force management across traditional reinsurance, transactions and solutions. You will have end-to-end accountability for the total financial performance of your designated Key Accounts — across both new and existing business — and will be the ultimate accountable person for steering the in-force portfolio, ensuring that emerging performance issues are identified early and addressed decisively.

  • Own profit-centre responsibility for designated Key Accounts, including strategy, planning, budgeting, performance steering and delivery against financial objectives.
  • Be ultimately accountable for total account financial performance and actively steer the in-force portfolio, including profitability, experience developments, treaty performance and remediation actions. Live and breathe the core L&H Re KPIs for your clients.
  • Drive sustainable and profitable growth by originating opportunities across traditional reinsurance, transactions and solutions, leveraging the full breadth of Swiss Re’s capabilities.
  • Develop a strong understanding of clients’ corporate finance agendas, including capital, liquidity, balance sheet, ALM and earnings priorities. Build trusted dialogue with CFOs, treasurers and other senior finance stakeholders to identify needs and shape impactful financial solutions.
  • Lead integrated client planning and execution across renewals, in-force actions, deal opportunities and solution initiatives, ensuring clear priorities, ownership and follow-through.
  • Build and own senior and C-suite relationships across Key Accounts in Asia, developing a deep understanding of client strategy, financial priorities, risk and capital drivers, and evolving business needs.
  • Translate client needs into compelling, differentiated propositions and win-win solutions, mobilising expertise across underwriting, pricing, transactions, solutions, finance, claims and other functions.
  • Lead or coordinate deal teams for material opportunities, complex transactions and negotiations, balancing commercial ambition with disciplined risk selection and sustainable economics.
  • Work closely with regional and global colleagues and client leadership teams to coordinate reinsurance activities, engagement strategies and senior relationship coverage across markets, delivering Swiss Re’s capabilities coherently to clients.
  • Champion sales and origination excellence, strengthen commercial discipline and execution standards, and maintain a strong internal and external network.

The position includes significant travel across Asia.

About the Team

You will join the Key Accounts & Origination team within Life & Health Reinsurance in Asia, working as part of a highly connected regional and global client community. The team brings together senior commercial, underwriting, transactions, solutions and functional expertise to manage our most important relationships, protect and enhance the value of the existing portfolio, and create new sources of profitable growth. The environment is collaborative, international and performance-oriented, with a strong emphasis on client impact, financial acumen, sound judgement, accountability and continuous development.

About You

You are a commercially minded, client-centric leader with the judgement to balance growth, portfolio quality and long-term value creation. You bring strategic perspective, strong execution discipline and financial fluency, enabling you to engage credibly with senior clients on complex reinsurance, capital and balance sheet topics. Clear, collaborative and persuasive, you can influence senior stakeholders, lead cross-functional teams and shape differentiated solutions in a dynamic, multicultural environment.

Professional Experience

  • A university degree or equivalent education and professional experience.
  • 10+ years’ experience in a complex international insurance or reinsurance environment, ideally spanning reinsurance, actuarial/capital management, transactions or corporate finance.
  • Proven experience in key account, client or commercial leadership across multiple Asian markets, including long-cycle businesses requiring disciplined relationship and opportunity management.
  • Strong track record of managing both new business and in-force portfolios, with a clear understanding of profitability drivers and the ability to take decisive action when performance deviates from expectations.
  • Strong corporate finance knowledge and understanding of insurance company financial statements, capital, liquidity, ALM and earnings drivers. You can engage credibly with CFOs and treasurers, understand their strategic priorities and translate them into relevant reinsurance and financial-solutions opportunities.
  • Demonstrated ability to originate and execute complex reinsurance and financial solutions, including transactions and competitive processes, supported by strong commercial judgement and cross-functional deal leadership.
  • Deep understanding of L&H insurance business models, market dynamics and evolving client needs across product, distribution, underwriting, claims, regulation and capital management.
  • Proven ability to build trusted, productive relationships with C-suite clients and senior internal stakeholders and to mobilise teams across regions and functions in a matrix organisation.
