Property Facultative Underwriter

Swiss Re is seeking a talented individual to join our Asia Pacific Facultative Team as a Property Facultative Underwriter. Based in Hong Kong, you will help grow a profitable Property facultative book across Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macau while gaining exposure beyond these markets through supporting peak renewals and 4-eye consultation of other markets within Asia Pacific. About the Role
You will report to the Property Facultative Senior Underwriter and be originating, analyzing, pricing and underwriting Property risks and portfolios, as well as deploying capacity appropriately according to risk and portfolio quality and Group guidelines within the framework of underwriting authority.
Underwriting & Business focus:
- Grow a profitable and balanced Property Facultative book in the territories assigned; cross-sell, engage and service brokers & clients
- Be the first port of call for Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan Property Fac business, and provide high quality, timely and appropriate service to clients and brokers whilst complying with underwriting authority and guidelines
- Contribute to development and execution of the Property Go-To Market strategy, deliver planned property portfolio targets, sharpen and articulate our risk appetites to our clients and brokers, within stated underwriting guidelines and other governance rules
- Proactive support to manage portfolio for sustainable profitable growth. Observe external risk landscape and trends. Help steer portfolio to reach profitability targets and Target Liability Profile
- Drive business origination and enhance relationship building with clients and brokers. Ensure robust new business pipelines and improve renewal retention to maximise Swiss Re Fac's commercial position.
- Mitigate volatility, manage line size and explore alternative approaches which allow us to write business profitably and meet clients' needs
- Ensure diligent use of pricing/modelling tools and robust reflection of pricing to exposure and risk quality. Proactively improve data transparency and accuracy.
- Support underwriting peer reviews & audits. Implement audit recommendations.
- Provide underwriting support to China and other Swiss Re offices and handle ad hoc tasks as required
- Proactively manage operational risks to ensure Operational Risk Management (ORM) compliance. Contribute to the ORM process and internal risk reviews
SwiftRe®
- Develop a profitable, diversified and highly automated SwiftRe® portfolio, improve efficiency and automation within the underwriting control framework
- Support the Senior Property Fac Underwriter to steer the portfolios for profitable growth, contribute to underwriting parameters setting, optimizing automation, response time and underwriting control
- Improve SwiftRe® functionality, underwriting control and user-friendliness working closely with the SwiftRe® Product Team
- Support product set-up and adapt generic products to local market needs
- Ensure timely response to clients and brokers, handle daily submissions and special acceptances, answer client's queries and provide coaching to clients and support SwiftRe® client on-boarding
General:
- Contribute to the Swiss Re's market presence and client franchise of being a reinsurance subject matter expert and go-to market through working closely with Treaty Underwriters and Key Account Managers and other cross-functional teams
- Actively seek and procure opportunities in the market through high quality client and broker interactions, relationship building and engagement
- Provide technical advice and conduct trainings to Swiss Re clients and internal functions.
- Proactively liaise with the Claims Team to stay abreast of claims trends and issues of market/client companies and their profitability
- Proactively streamline underwriting processes and workflows
- Leads / participates in projects as required
About the Team
Swiss Re Hong Kong Property Facultative Team is part of the fast-growing Asia Pacific P&C Facultative Underwriting community which shares the common vision and goals to collaboratively grow our Fac business across Asia Pacific territories from Japan, Korea to Greater China, Southeast Asia, India and Australia and New Zealand. In this role you will be an important member of a growing and energetic team that facilitates entrepreneurial & team spirit, underwriting expertise, resilience, as well as your personal and professional development.
About You
- University degree; completed ACII or CPCU qualification an advantage
- 5 years or more of relevant underwriting experience in Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan and a good understanding of these markets and products
- Good knowledge of all aspects of industrial and commercial property underwriting; experienced in heavy property occupancies and general property underwriting
- Experience in writing multi-national programs / automated underwriting platform business, are added advantages
- Comfortable working in a highly collaborative, multi-cultural matrix organization

- Strong teammate and effective communicator, both written and verbally
- Team player and willingness to positively engage with colleagues

- Excellent English and Mandarin skills, Cantonese language is beneficial
- Willing to make occasional business travels
