Senior Casualty Facultative Underwriter

We are looking for an ambitious Casualty Underwriter who has the skills, drive and commitment to develop his/her career with us. This is a great opportunity to grow professionally and personally, involving in major casualty and financial line products, including motor and group personal accident and gaining exposure to other Asia markets.

 

About the Role


You will be part of our Hong Kong Facultative Team to grow a profitable Casualty facultative book primarily in Hong Kong and Taiwan region, through executing our Swiss Re Fac's go-to market strategies and promoting our presence and propositions to brokers and clients. Swiss Re is a bottom-line driven company and your performance will be measured based on bottom line growth.

 

The role reports into the Head Casualty Facultative Greater China and Southeast Asia.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

Underwriting and Business focus:

  • Be the first port of call for Fac business, and provide high quality, timely and appropriate service to clients and brokers whilst complying with underwriting authority and guidelines
  • Grow a profitable and balanced Casualty Facultative book in accordance with the planned portfolio targets and Go-To Market strategy, within stated underwriting guidelines and other governance rules.
  • Monitor portfolio metrics and observe external risk landscape & trends and steer portfolios to reach profit targets and the Target Casualty Portfolio
  • Mitigate volatility, manages line size and explore alternative approaches that allow us to write business profitably and meet client needs
  • Grow facility business and explore opportunities for efficiently handling small and medium industrial and commercial businesses.
  • Provide high quality and timely underwriting service to brokers and clients
  • Actively seek and procure opportunities in the market through high quality client and broker interactions, relationship building and engagement
  • Ensure robust new business pipelines and improve renewal retention to maximise Swiss Re Fac's commercial position and pricing adequacy
  • Develop and monitor budgets and business plans to ensure timely steering and reporting
  • Ensure diligent use of pricing / modelling tools and robust reflection of pricing to exposure and risk quality, proactively improves data transparency and accuracy
  • Cross-sell Property and other lines of business where possible
  • Supports underwriting peer reviews & audits and implements audit recommendations
  • Provides underwriting support to other Swiss Re offices and handles ad hoc tasks as needed.
  • Ensure compliance and contribute to the internal risk management process and reviews

 

About the Team

 

This is a great opportunity to join the Swiss Re Hong Kong Casualty Facultative Team, part of the Asia P&C Facultative Underwriting community across our Asia Pacific local business units which share the common vision and goals to collaboratively grow our Fac business across Asia territories from Japan, Korea to Greater China, Southeast Asia, India and Australia and New Zealand.

About You

 

  • Technical university degree, law preferred; or vast experience in (re-)insurance business.
  • 12 years or more of relevant underwriting experience and up-to-date insurance and reinsurance product and market know-how or in a corresponding reinsurance/broker area, preferably in North Asia markets but experience in other emerging markets will be considered.
  • Experience in markets APAC, SEA, Indian sub-continents are added advantages.
  • Expertise in General TP Liability, CGL/Products liability, Product Recall, Professional Indemnity, D&O, Project PI and Facility underwriting knowledge .
  • Experience in Motor and A&H added advantage.
  • Market network and relationships.
  • Expertise in facilities, automated solutions.
  • Open to travel based upon business needs.
  • Comfortable working in a highly collaborative, matrix and multi-cultural environment, taking ownership, accountability, and the extra mile to get things done, both internally and externally to provide superior service to our clients / brokers
  • Ability to learn and deliver under pressure and at ease with going outside of comfort zone
  • Proven track record as a successful salesperson and deal maker
  • Strong teammate and effective communicator, both written and verbal
  • Efficient and pragmatic, gets things done.
  • Less experienced candidates will be considered for Casualty Facultative Underwriter.
