About the Role

 

As a Senior HNW Underwriter within Swiss Re's Life & Health Reinsurance Market Unit for Hong Kong & Taiwan, you will be at the heart of delivering disciplined, high-quality risk selection for complex HNW business. You'll work alongside a high-performance team and cross-functional partners across APAC ex China, translating market insights and in-force experience into consistent underwriting standards that drive profitable growth. Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver core HNW underwriting services to clients by assessing medical, financial, and risk data to provide accurate, competitive, and well-governed risk selection decisions
  • Support Swiss Re's market presence through participation in industry committees, delivery of presentations, and active engagement with the broader HNW insurance community
  • Conduct underwriting reviews and audits within the internal framework, providing recommendations on both technical underwriting decisions and operational efficiency to enhance client underwriting standards
  • Support Market Unit portfolio monitoring through data deep dives and trend analysis, identifying portfolios that require further review and coordinating with specialist resources across the wider team
  • Contribute to product development and quote activities as the HNW underwriting subject matter expert, participating in cross-functional initiatives to develop sustainable client solutions
  • Engage and influence stakeholders across Swiss Re, including cross-functional teams, UW and Claims Offices, and Medical Officers, to gather insights on HNW underwriting trends, contract wording, and emerging innovations
  • Drive thought leadership by researching new and developing innovations, contributing to industry presentations, and sharing company initiatives via social media and industry committees
  • Lead and contribute to ad-hoc and ongoing Global and Asia Market Unit Claims & Underwriting projects as agreed with the Line Manager


About the Team

 

The Underwriting and Claims team is part of Life & Health Reinsurance Market Unit Hong Kong & Taiwan. The team is responsible for delivering disciplined, high-quality risk selection for HNW business while supporting sound management of the in-force portfolio. Working closely with cross-functional partners across L&H, the team applies deep underwriting expertise and portfolio insights to support strong new business margins, sustainable client solutions, and informed portfolio decisions — all while championing operational excellence, risk governance, and continuous improvement across the HNW underwriting value chain.


About You

 

You are a technically strong and commercially minded HNW underwriting professional who brings a blend of deep expertise, collaborative energy, and a genuine curiosity for innovation. You're comfortable working in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment and have the confidence to challenge the status quo when it leads to better outcomes. You can zoom out from the detail to see the bigger picture, and you communicate with clarity and impact — whether with clients, internal stakeholders, or industry peers.

 

We Are Looking for Candidates Who Meet These Requirements:

 

  • University degree or equivalent qualification in insurance, business, financial services, law, or a medical discipline; ACII or LOMA qualification is highly preferred
  • 7+ years of HNW underwriting experience in insurance or reinsurance, with a strong track record of complex risk assessment and disciplined decision-making
  • Deep knowledge of the Life & Health insurance/reinsurance industry, including HNW underwriting principles, distribution models, and product knowledge
  • Asia Regional and/or International HNW market exposure is preferred.
  • Proven ability to work in cross-functional teams, with strong collaboration, influencing, and stakeholder engagement skills across diverse and geographically dispersed groups
  • Familiarity with underwriting review and audit processes, including the ability to provide constructive feedback to clients on underwriting standards and operational efficiency
  • Courage to challenge the status quo and explore new ideas that improve business outcomes and client value
  • Strong communication and presentation skills with experience engaging senior internal and external stakeholders
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, with proficiency in Cantonese preferred and Mandarin considered a strong asset
