About the Role: 
Life & Health Risk Management enables conscious and transparent risk-taking by proactively partnering and constructively challenging stakeholders, leveraging knowledge and experience, while offering an independent, global and long-term perspective to facilitate success across Swiss Re's Life & Health (L&H) business.

You are responsible for identifying, analysing, mitigating and monitoring L&H insurance risks issues across all risk factors in Asia, helping the business not only steer away from risks that could destabilise Swiss Re, but also collaborate with Business to spot issues early and fix them. 

In fulfilling these responsibilities, you will:

•    provide advice in transactions on potential risk impact, to ensure that Swiss Re accepts the most appropriate business within defined risk appetite. This will include reviewing new product and transaction proposals
•    conduct assurance activities/reviews to assess the quality of expert judgment of the business (e.g. reviews of Asia Terms of trade, participation in Insurance Risk Reviews)
•    provide expertise and advice to help business partners balance business strategy with appropriate risk management, by fostering strong relationships with Client Management, Business Management and Products counterparts within the Asia L&H community
•    lead or support monitoring of risk and capacity limits in place to ensure Swiss Re's exposures and aggregation of those risks are within the limits
•    support risk identification for new business models and technologies (including emerging risks) to facilitate forward looking strategies for future risk opportunities and/or risk mitigations
•    drive effective portfolio steering and provide balanced view of risk vs. reward by participating in various projects and business review activities including Business Plan
•    ensure robust capital management by supporting accurate and timely production of key capital information including Swiss Solvency Test (SST) metrics 
•    lead or participate in L&H relevant risk deep dives (including operational risk reviews) or projects that contribute towards enhanced understanding and mitigation of specific risks
•    report on material Asia L&H risks, to facilitate informed decision-making
•    promote risk awareness and risk culture within the business
•    represent Risk Management in key change initiatives within Global L&H
•    travel required occasionally, as well as attendance to global meetings that span multiple time zones

 

About the Team:
The Life & Health Risk Management team is responsible for executing a comprehensive risk management strategy with other L&H business teams and support senior management in effective management of risks within their portfolios, ensuring Swiss Re's profitability and sustainable long-term growth, while protecting our reputation and financial strength.

The role supports the Head Risk Management L&H Asia in executing the mandates and carrying out responsibilities delegated from the Chief Risk Officer Reinsurance Asia and Head Risk Management L&H.

With the exposure to the fast growing, largely heterogeneous Asian markets, the successful candidate will be able to develop an in-depth understanding of the L&H business and risk landscape.


About You: 
•    Strong understanding of Life & Health reinsurance processes; experience working in multiple business functions and exposure to large and structured transactions are highly desirable
•    Superior analytic and modeling abilities and sound risk management and actuarial techniques; knowledge of stochastic modelling would be an asset
•    Knowledge and understanding of risks and controls within a reinsurance environment; knowledge or experience in risk modelling, capital management and financial market risk an advantage
•    Independent and critical thinking, willing to challenge constructively
•    Agile learner, open to new ways of thinking and new ideas; focused on continuous learning and bringing new information into your work
•    Great teammate, willingness to share knowledge and experience within and across team and other risk management functions
•    Ideally, a qualified actuary with at least 7 years of relevant life (re)insurance industry experience. Other quantitative backgrounds with suitable business experience will also be considered 
•    Strong communicator with great influencing and negotiation skills
•    Excellent written and oral communication skills (English is required; additional Asian languages will be an advantage)
