About the Team
The Cloud Transformation Delivery Team is part of the Public Cloud Transformation department within the global Cloud and Infrastructure division. The team focuses on driving cloud transformation across the business domain ITs through architecture consulting as well as hand-on engineering. The team also acts as a gateway to understand customer's needs and help establish new services and capabilities on the platform. The Cloud Transformation Delivery's mission is to deliver business value through enabling Swiss Re and the business units to utilize the power and flexibility offered by Public Cloud and accelerate the cloud adoption across Swiss Re.
Role and Responsibilities
We are looking for a public cloud architect or specialist with FinOps focus to drive efficient use of public cloud technology at Swiss Re. Ideal candidate combines deep technical know how about public cloud services and strong project management discipline.
- Conducting deep-dive technical analysis with individual workload teams and preparing detailed analysis and cost saving recommendations for each team.
- Deep public cloud (Azure +) component level technical knowledge along with cloud pricing models to create cost optimization leads on existing public cloud workload.
- Monitor, detect, investigate anomalies, suboptimal usage on cloud spends across different cloud services. Analyze the usage telemetry data to identify cost optimization opportunities and create actionable insights and general recommendations for application engineering teams.
- Implement automation tools for repeatable tasks and build reporting dashboard with relevant data points and insights.
- Explain the cost optimization recommendations and review the feasibility of their implementation with application developers, product leads balancing cost-benefit ratio.
- Contribute to the organization level cloud cost budget planning and forecast, and continuously improve the projection accuracy, explore trends and insights on cloud spend.
- Create reports, dashboards, and alerts to track spending and usage trends and the potential impact of cost optimizations.
- Closely partner with Engineering teams to understand Cloud business processes and cost drivers, where needed, assist in implementing, maintaining, and governing the FinOps discipline
- Collaborate with Service mgmt. team, Finance team to establish financial transparency and help in effective planning, forecasting of cloud spend.
- Define and establish KPIs and monitor their delivery on a consistent basis.
- Based on the technical insights bring suggestions to the technical architecture teams to shape best practice guidelines, architecture and design decision and recommendations to drive efficient use of cloud services across the organization.
- Drive cost optimization by establishing standard practices, guidelines, and necessary tooling to optimize cost in non-productive and development environments (e.g. automatically shutting down instances when not needed, cleaning historical data etc.
About you
- University degree in Engineering, Computer Science (or comparable education/experience)
- >5 years of relevant development and architectural experience or which at least 4 years as a cloud specialist or cloud architect
- Solid understanding of Public Cloud environments/ecosystem, various service, subscription and billing models, pricing tiers etc.
- Commercial mindset to investigate and analyze the usage of cloud service across the company and identify optimization opportunities from cost and usage perspectives.
- Experience and comfortable diving deep into technical discussion on compatibility of cloud services and their configuration in line with business needs and its cost footprint.
- Excellent stakeholder management abilities to drive cost efficiencies across Swiss Re's by collaborating with stakeholders from Business/Domain IT.
