Engineering Lead

About the role

As Engineering Lead, you would define and enhance the L&H landscape technology architecture and engineering. You would also be fully responsible for retaining and building strong Engineering team responsible for delivering the strategic initiatives for specific product(s).  

In this role you will have the freedom to recommend and build alternative solutions to business challenges and contribute to the streamlining of processes and creation of competitive advantage. You will be responsible prioritizing efforts based on the expected business benefits and drive the effective execution of these initiatives to ensure that investments produce tangible outcomes.

To achieve the above, you will closely collaborate and partner with Engineering Director, L&H Engineering Leads and Product Owners. You would also collaborate with experienced Technology Platform leads and Operations team members.

You will have direct responsibility of leading engineering of specific products. You would be responsible for both internal and external engineering team members of specific products. You would also be responsible for coaching and mentoring junior team members across.

In this role, you will ensure sharing knowledge across L&H engineering teams and align best practices across Reinsurance. You would also be frequently called to communicate ideas and plans to various leadership teams and boards.

Strong communication at multiple levels (L&H IT Leadership, Group Technology Services, regional management teams, user communities) of the tech vision, roadmap, deliverables.

 

About the Team

Our team is the global L&H Reinsurance Engineering team, responsible for the technical Architecture and Engineering for L&H Reinsurance business unit. The team members are passionate about technology with deep understanding of reinsurance business. We closely collaborate with other teams and colleagues around the globe to share knowledge and engineer solutions.

Growing experience will, over time, give you a broad view on Architecture & Engineering of a global reinsurer and enable you to have a comprehensive understanding, people and systems involved and how these systems shape business outcomes. This will allow you to build a strong engineering team in Hyderabad and become a key technology leader in Swiss Re.

About You

To succeed in this role, you will possess …

  • Over Twelve years of experience in software engineering with strong fundamentals on data structures, algorithms & architecture patterns.
  • At least Ten years of experience in Java or .Net core and related technologies in a large enterprise system
  • Have experience leading team members in cross-functional teams, operating effectively across the organization and within complex contexts.
  • Being hands-on Engineer is key to be successful in this role.
  • Substantial Technology background with experience in the delivering IT projects including cloud-native applications, and knowledge of state-of-the-art technology.
  • Contribute to technical research and feasibility studies.
  • Strong analytical skills, and seek problems in a structured way, joining your own creative ideas and those of others.
  • Combined agile practices with collaborative skills across cultures, geographies and organizational levels.
  • Committed to continuous learning and self-improvement.
  • Good communication & presentation skills with proficiency in English
  • Focus on outcome and getting things accomplished with a strong commitment to quality and timely customer service.
  • At ease with leaving your comfort zone and dealing with ambiguity
  • Understanding of insurance/reinsurance business is a plus.
  • Proficiency in English is required.
