Lead Engineer Automic Automation UC4

About the Team

Part of Swiss Re's Group Digital & Technology organisation, Shared Platform Services provides central infrastructural services and standardized common components, ranging from automation, secure access tokens, cryptographic keys to database infrastructures. That helps us to increase productivity of our clients, improve cost efficiency, and reduce time to market for new features.

Enterprise Batch Management team provides cross-platform solutions for all Swiss Re's batch scheduling needs. We have a customer base of approximately 1'200 developers, and the infrastructure coordinates and performs approximately 15 million Windows, Unix, Mainframe and API driven task executions per month. Services we provide are mission critical for our business and demonstrating corresponding performance, availability and resilience.

In your role, you will...

  • Work closely with the Product Owner to ensure the quality and stability of the platform
  • Lead several junior platform engineers so that the whole team maintains high level of productivity and focus on the high standard of the infrastructure architecture and implementation
  • Engineer and manage Job Scheduling infrastructure across different platforms (Azure Kubernetes Services, Unix, Windows, IBM Mainframe) including installation, maintenance and performance improvements of UC4.
  • Design and develop scheduling infrastructure platform in collaboration with other members of the engineering team and with our clients - application developers.
  • Drive automation through Infrastructure as Code, Scripting and Configuration Management
  • Ensure high availability, performance and reliability for hybrid cloud solution
  • Participate in incident response and root cause analysis
  • Improve DevOps development processes (version control strategy, code flow, application configuration strategy)
  • Create technical support documentation, reusable assets, and guidelines for the rest of platform team

 

Your qualifications

Nobody meets 100% of our requirements. If you, however, meet some of the criteria below and are curious about work in a well-established Enterprise Batch Management team, we'll be more than happy to meet you!

  • Knowledge and experience with a scheduling system (Several years (>7) of experience, ideally the product UC4 also known as Automic Automation from Broadcom)
  • Experience in Azure (>5 years) in an infrastructure engineering or application development capacity.
  • Experience with Kubernetes (ideally AKS) and related ecosystem of cloud native tools
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code tools (ideally Terraform)
  • Knowledge of containerisation, microservices architecture and Azure DevOps CI/CD pipelines
  • Basic knowledge of modern networking tools and ability to manage Azure cloud application related network infrastructure including security aspects
  • Familiarity and hands-on experience with programming (in particular Unix scripting) and databases (preferably PostgreSQL or Oracle). Java expertise is a solid plus
  • A structured engineering approach to designing solutions and solving issues
  • Software and solution architecture know-how
  • A curiosity about new technologies and experience in automation of solutions and processes
  • Initiative combined with strong technical and analytical skills
  • Communication skills and a willingness to work in a highly collaborative team environment, interest in collaborating with and consulting clients and development teams
  • Good interpersonal skills in spoken and written English
