About the role

Senior Backend Application Engineer will combine design thinking techniques, software development, Geospatial domain know how and apply agile architecture principles to build high-quality backend applications. You are an experienced backend engineer who has passion for application development, loves to analyse and address various technical challenges on the way. You will work with the business product owner, architecture, and engineering teams to translate a business need into a robust and integrated technology solution to meet the Product vision and roadmap. You will provide your technical expertise in building backend application demonstrating modern cloud services aligned with the technology governance standards and current methodologies for the Property & Casualty (P&C) Re business of Swiss Re. In this role, you will also be responsible for collaborating with global teams and external partners during all phases of the product development lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design, development, and creation of proof of concept for our product application solutions.
• Participate in Design & Code reviews and effectively engage in Review sessions.
• Collaborate with peers to drive the backend application development standard methodologies demonstrating the modern cloud services for our product portfolio. Keep up with technology trends and identify promising new solutions that meet our requirements.
• Provides hands-on solving and consulting for solution challenges when needed.
• Follow standard methodologies for building, testing, and deploying of applications.

About the team

You will be joining the geospatial solutions team that delivers map and lookup services to the business. We provide the backend for interactive visual mapping tools and make spatial information and analytics easily accessible for the users. This helps the team to make efficient and informed decisions.

• University Degree in Computer Sciences or similar IT related fields
• Experience in Cloud Application Architecture
• 8+ years of experience with backend development using Java, MVC, Rest based services implementation.
• 5+ years of experience in one or more of the following:
  • Programming languages and backend frameworks: Java, Java Spring boot and C# or Python (added advantage)
  • Database: MS SQL Server, PostgreSQL DB flexible server
  • APIs: API design, development and API management on Azure
  • Good experience in working with Azure PaaS services viz. storage accounts, VMs, AKS, Webapps, Azure functions, Service bus, Logic apps, Event grids etc.,
• Experience in developing scalable and highly available application solution leveraging cloud services like AKS and webapps dynamic scaling, caching technologies such as Azure cache/Redis.
• Good understanding in application infra viz, authentication/authorization, VNet integration/peering, firewalls, proxy setup, IaaC using terraform.
• Experience in one or more web/application servers such as Azure Entra, NGINX, Apache etc.,
• Experience in Microservices Architectures
• Experience using integrated development environments (e.g., Visual Studio, Visual Studio Code, Eclipse, XCode)
• Experience in containerization & deployment of applications using Docker and/or Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS)
• Exposure to Azure DevOps (Repo, Pipeline, CICD)
• Experience in agile software engineering practices with strong fundamentals
• Strong analytical skills, and address problems in a structured way, joining your own creative ideas and those of others.
• Good communication (written, verbal, and presentation) skills
• Proven experience in collaborating and working with global business stakeholders.
• Ability to describe and document application architecture and processes in an easy-to-understand manner.
