About the team

The Shared Cloud Services Team is part of the Public Cloud Transformation department within global Infrastructure and Cloud division of Swiss Re. The team focuses on developing and operating state of the art shared infrastructure services on the public cloud. These services offer cost effective, secure, and standardized environment to accelerate the adoption of cloud technology and harness more value by utilizing the power and flexibility offered by Public Cloud.

 

Roles & Responsibilities

We are searching for a hands-on Senior Cloud Architect to join our team. As a senior member you will lead the design and development of new infrastructure and platform services in public cloud. You will also continue to enhance the performance, efficiency and operations of the existing infrastructure services owned and managed by the team. E.g., AppHosting on shared K8S, Shared Service Bus etc.

In this role, you'll architect, design and participate on the development of new cloud infrastructure and platform service and enhance existing services using Infrastructure as Code, cloud native capabilities and advanced DevOps tools. Your work will include managing a managed PaaS platform, covering aspects like fully automated secret management, storage, and identity management for application teams. You'll also support application teams to migrate and build new applications using these shared platform services.

 

One of the core capabilities of the team is to operate and run the existing platform services and this is done heavily by automating operational processes as much as possible. You will also participate in further enhancing this setup and engage in an on-call duties in rotation, approximately once every two months, to handle high-priority incidents. This frequency is expected to decrease as our team grows.

To be successful in this role, you should possess the following technical skills and knowledge:

Minimum Qualifications & Skills:

  • University degree in Engineering, Computer Science (or comparable education/experience)
  • >8 years of relevant development and architectural experience or which at least 4 years of experience in developing and running shared platform services.
  • Extensive and proven experience working with Azure and/or AWS Cloud and developing enterprise grade secure cloud infrastructure solutions with optimal cost efficiency.
  • In-depth knowledge and hands-on experience with Azure Services like Azure Kubernetes Services, Azure Service Bus, Logic Apps, Azure Functions, or similar services from AWS.
  • Experience in programming languages and tools, preferably including terraform, ARM, PowerShell, Golang, and Pulumi etc.
  • Strong understanding of cloud security including application and network level security best practices, able to apply and contribute to cloud security standards.
  • Ability to architect and design shared platform services on cloud with cloud native developer experience, multi tenancy, and all necessary cross cutting functionalities (logging, monitoring, identity based, authentication etc.) backed into the service and abstracted from the end user (application developer).
  • As a senior member, excellent communication skill (written and verbal) with ability to influence stakeholders with facts and reasoning at multiple levels are key skills to succeed in the role and as a team.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced Kubernetes Skills: Proficiency in writing and operating Kubernetes operators.
  • Authentication/Authorization Knowledge: Familiarity with modern authentication and authorization protocols like OAuth and OIDC.
  • Site Reliability Engineering: Interest or knowledge in the principles of site reliability engineering.
  • Cloud Security: Understanding of, or interest in, cloud security practices.
  • Infrastructure Pipelines: Experience in working with infrastructure pipelines is a plus.
